Listen, if you don't like the show, get out of this newsgroup! I mean, do you just, have nothing to do with your time and say to yourself, "Hmmmm...I hate South Park. Let's go to the South Park newsgroup and say so!"

You make a good point. While I may not like other opinions of the 'SoUtH pArK SuX!!!! u R aLl LuSeRz!!!' variety, I do recognize the right for those things to be said. There is a line from The American President that goes something like 'Upholding the First Ammendment means giving someone the right to say something that you would fight your whole life against.' Something akin to that, a very good and powerfu statement.

I agreed with everything up until here. The "South Park Sux!" and "you are all losers" are not opinions. They are flamebait. Now, if someone had some real arguments that could potentially be debated (if the two proponents had the time), I'm all for that.
But opinions without back up are less than worthless. They spark violent reactions (like the one that started this thread), and they fall into nothing but ad hominim attacks by the third response (if we're lucky!).
Negative opinions can be a great starting point on ways to improve the show, assuming the right people are monitoring this group. The only way to find out if something is working or not is through the gathering of all types of opinions.
But flamebait isn't constructive in any way. Do they have a right to post them? Yeah, I suppose. This *is* Usenet.

True, very true, but the right is still there.
That brings up something I've been wondering about for a while. Is there anyone who posts/lurks here that is involved with South Park? Or Comedy Central? If so, could you speak up? It'd be nice to know if our thoughts were actually being heard by someone out there who has input into this show that has become a part of my daily routine.
Usenet or a street corner, it still can be said. While I don't enjoy flamebait, it has a right to be here. I don't enjoy racists either, but if they want to preach their hate on a corner somewhere they havee the right to.
