We need to get ALL the facts before we do ANYTHING. I mean stuff like, who's doing the transfering of the groups from the list to the NewsGroup. Are we Sure CC is to blame?? They may be unwitting victims, whose list has been abused. It looks like someone from msu.edu has set this up. If we are sure CC is guiltless, then the next step is to complain to the dean,president, abuse, root, and about 100 more addresses at msu.edu. ALL of us, we've got to get their attention. Then we need to ask for Comedy Central's Help in getting this taken care of. They can find out if the email is being sent to msu.edu, and who specifically there, and remove that person from their list. Do they even run the list?? I just assume so, based on discussion here.

After that, we need to complain to a whole bunch of people at msu.edu's Upstreamers. Even Snail mail may have to be sent. Faxes too. Eventually, they'll undo it just to shut us up. If we don't unite, there's nothing that can be done. Should someone setup "Save alt.tv.southpark Central" a website where we can get esentail information on how to mount this mass-complaint.

Note, I am NOT(repeat NOT) advocating, suggesting, or implying use of, server crippling abuse, such as Mail-Bombs, and ping wars on ANY servers. That is a BIG no-no and if I was involved, I'd loose my Service provider.

In all fairness, no. However, after seeing their sheer idiocy in setting up, configuring and maintaining that list, I think it's likely.

root, abuse, postmaster. That oughta cover it. The dean and president don't really enter into it.

But look at the Sender: field. It's "[email]". That sort of gives the impression that it's someone "official" doing it.

If it's not CC, then it's someone With Pull at MSU.

Yeah, I see your point. But if the president dean and trustees got more mail on this subject than they cared to recieve, action would be taken. abuse and root addresses some times aren't even read (They aren't at my school) and if the dickhead who setup this redirection was the same guy who read abuse, root, and/or postmaster, then the complaints would probably hit /dev/null.

official in what capacity?? Most universiy networks are setup by proffessors and a few cable jockeys the Unv. hires, and then run and maintained by students. I doubt I'd have much problem getting at Daemon on my server at school, if I wanted, since I'm good friends with the guys who have root access on our UNIX server.

I hope you're right. But Email is so easily ignored. For some reason, when the same thing is seen on paper, it's more effective, or atleast that's what I read somewhere.

One would hope. I know of one school that gives the admins of the various boxes pretty much free rein. This, of course, leads to poorly-configured boxes, lazily slapped together, etc., etc., etc. Not the time nor place for THAT soapbox. I hope you're right.

So you'd be doing it with their approval. They run it, they delegate authority to you. I consider that "official". <shrug>

Well, either the admins let him, or he's doing it without their knowledge, and either way, it's a Bad Thing.

Probably because it's an ACTUAL THING, instead of some blips on a screen? Hell if I know.

Now then, maybe some mail should be sent after all this discussion. I nominate my self to make the first messages to abuse,root and post master to see if we get any satisfaction. If not, we'll just have to move to the next level of mobilization.

But I wonder now if anyone besides you and me are even reading this part of the thread, what with all the boring discussion about admin's and UNIX and such :) Hell I wonder if E.'s even reading this.
