Who are the trolls in this group?

You should all know me as a regular, so I'm hoping you'll answer a question for me. WHo are the known trolls in this group? I know about that "boing" guy and dr gumnow or whoever. Is pstolsky a troll? Anybody else?

well the boing guy's email address is [email] or something, and Ptolsky posted once with that address. He's anti Canadian because he started a post awhile back flaming them, and playing the Americans against the Canadians.

It's a lot easier to change your screen name than it is to change your email. So, he would have one screen name when he posted his "boing" message, and then when he changed his name so people would think he was Ptolsky his email would be the same. That would explain why his email is different now, right? If I remember correctly, this guy us now trying to make people think that he's Leespam, so why is it that hard to believe that he tried to pretend to be Ptolsky before? And as for Ptolsky's anti-Canadian thread... I never saw it, but is it possible it got blown out of proportion and misunderstood, like my "My mom says ther're a lot of black people in Australia" thread?

no Jeff, it was him. He acted like himself, not insulting himself or anyone on the group at that post. He also doesn't know what a *PLONK* is. Pstokely, a *PLONK* is when you put someone in your mail filter so you don't see their messages. My "killfile" is getting very full... also he's insulted lotsa people, especially Canadians, when he told the world that their hockey team sucks.... ...ohwell....

The best way to tell if someone is a fake, is to right click on their message and then click properties. Under "organization" it'll tell which ISP posted the message, regardless of what the person's email address or screen name is. Observe the following demonstration....

I agree that the term "troll" is used WAY too freely. Anyone with a different opinion from you is a troll, by some people's defenition. There are some cases where I'd say that that's true. Like, someone who comes onto a Southpark newsgroup and says "southpark sucks" is a troll, in my book. They are obviously only posting to cause trouble and if they didn't like the show, their very presence in the newsgroup makes them a troll. It's one thing to say "I didn't like last night's episode" but it's completely another to say "This show is for idiots and simpletons". Guess which one would be considered a troll? ;)

In my opinion, trolls are people who post to a group with the sole purpose of causing an uproar (a negative kind, of course) and pissing everyone off. A troll states illogical opinions that aren't really based on anything (i.e. they never give good enough reasons for why they said what they did) just to try to get others to flame them. The best thing to do with a troll is to toss it into your killfilter, or if you don't have a killfilter, like yours truly, then just ignore 'em. They live for getting negative responses...in their own sick and twisted minds, it amuses them. Methinks that sums it all up! :)

I came sometime during summer.....I didn't know what I was doing back then and jumped in feet first. I remember pissing off a few people with my rantings, then slowly started to learn the tips and tricks of netiquette.....

Yeah, I used to always respond to the trolls too. <hides guiltily in a corner, taking a cupcake> It was sort of an addiction, because it's fun being a smartass! ;P But, it's better that we don't respond...they get really frustrated. For example, in another of my newsgroups, the Boing guy had a post entitled, "Why Aren't You Responding To Me?" or "Respond To What I'm Posting" or something along the lines of that, because he had not even one response to his babblings. They get frustrated, and eventually they'll shrivel up and crawl into nothingness. So, again, I'd like to tell you peoples that still might be responding....please don't!

Oh yes, you can convert..you can convert *lots*. They have to *hear* the 'certain song' to be converted, though, and that will be tricky..as for people bashing them in April, I just remembered that people bashed *everything* in April, taking out their anger over the Cliffhanger joke..

I'm not too sure 'bout him...*IF* he's the boing guy, then he is. If not, then that's good points for him. If those anti-Canadian posts were jokes (which me*THINKS* they were) then he, again, is innocent in that way (just has to be a bit more careful with posting things others might misinterpret)

Yeah...there's Roman. And, the Dejanews Leespam, who is trying to impersonate the *REAL* AOL LEESPAM (but isn't doing a good job--s/he didn't fool any of us). There was also someone before that seemed to be trying to impersonate Martin Hazelbower. hzlbwr@something or other. There's been a few others, that might've made one or two posts and then left. But, I've never really remembered their names or anything, so they don't really hang out here much.
