REVIEW: "Damien" [#108]

Review of "Damien" episode #108

Well, the great anticipation is over. Overall, I would have to say that "Damien" was a very good episode, but the cutting edge humour was lacking at times. I was expecting an outstanding episode since the whole idea spawned from the original 2 animated shorts in which Jesus fought Frosty and Santa Claus. Who's next? Saddam Hussein? Hitler? Cartman? In my mind, this is part one of the Jesus vs. Satan saga. The ending was so weak, that it must continue again. In reality, neither one of them won. We also didn't see an lewd blashemy that we'd expect from a Satan episode. On the other hand, Trey and Matt brought back some of the old symbol from the old episodes.

            - an alien poster flew by saying, "Have You Seen Me?" (Ref:

            - a box of Snaky Cakes flew by
            - a gun (Ref: "Volcano" or "Weight Gain 4000")
            - a football (Ref: "Big Gay Al's Big Gay Boat Ride")
            - Mr. Hankey! (wearing a white hat resembling the Chef's
hat)
            - a can of beer (in the cafeteria!)
            - a cow (Ref: "Cartman Gets An Anal Probe")

When Satan first spoke, he created a gust of wind that had these things
fly across the screen:
            - more Snacky Cakes
            - an alien (Ref: "Cartman Gets An Anal Probe")

During the Jesus vs. Satan Pay Per View commercial:
            - they showed Jesus shooting a ball of light. (Ref: Spirit
of Christmas)
At Cartman's Birthday Party
            - two elephants on the front lawn (Ref: "An Elephant Makes
Love To a Pig")
            - when Chef gives Cartman his present, he says: "Here's your
present children."?
            - There's definatly something between Chef and Mrs. Cartman.
I think this gave away Cliffhanger."

At the fight ...
            - Somebody is holding a cut-out figure of an alien.
            -At the fight, the announcer said Jesus weighs 140lbs, but
when they weighed in earlier, he was at 135lbs and 1 oz. Continuity
error.

Kenny Says ...

    Although Kenny only said one thing (excepts for the quacks) it was a
good one. When Stan said that Kenny said he called Damien's mom a dog,
Kenny muffles ...
            "yeah, and she likes to suck his dick."

Since the episode has already been aired, a spoiler warning is no longer neccesary. Anyone who is in a timezone that would have South Park shown after it has already been shown earlier in another time zone should just not read the group until they have seen the episode.

I disagree. A spoiler should be used to keep from spoiling the episode for anyone who missed it and wants to see it over the weekend.

And as for not reading the group until they see it, it sucks to ignore the newsgroup till you see an episode and then catch up on some 500 posts when you see it. I haven't seen "Anal Probe" yet. Am I not supposed to read this anymore until I finally see it?

But that basically eliminates all ease of conversation between Wednesday at 10:30 PM until Saturday (or whenever they repeat the episode) I think that spoilers are usually used if someone mentions something from an episode that has NOT aired at all in any form. I think that since the majority of the group watches SP Wednesday night, if you wait to watch it on the weekend, then just don't read the group until you have.

Exactly. The majority of people watch the episode when it first airs. I could say something about the level of fandom depending on when the episode is first viewed, but I won't go there just yet. Anyway, you have 2 opportunities to catch, or at least tape, the new episodes on Wedensday. That should be enough for anyone.

Actually, the spoiler warnings should go on until Saturday, because we Canadians have to wait until Friday to see the new episodes. It doesn't take that much more effort to add "spoiler" to the subject line.

It's a review. It HAS to mention the episode.

Are we not supposed to talk about it until you see it? Besides, it's not like wild plot twists are intrinsic to enjoying SP episodes. I could tell you the entire plot of an episode and it'd still be funny, since the plot's NOT the point.

Getting all the episodes with FTP isn't tough. Learn to use it.

I had seen the show I was thinking of others who may have had to tape it or wait for someone to feed them a tape. Seven keystrokes to inform readers that there is info therein that may spoil a show for them is not too much to ask.

How in the world do you know what Kenny said? Please enlighten me on how you decipher that.

Wrong. Jesus was in training and gained 5 lbs between the weigh in and the fight.

I simply want to agree with your review and i would bet money that satan will be back,the ending just wasnt satasfying.

It's no surprise that episode #108 is substandard. Why do you think it was held back all this time? The creators weren't happy with it themselves and so they set it aside. They probably would have scrapped it completely if they weren't under pressure.

The next episodes will be better.

kenny said something about 'pussy' when it came to his snappy comment about the dog. i don't where anyone could think 'penis' sounds like 'pussy,' even if it is a muffled preteen with a poverty problem.

I thought "Damien" was much better than any of the hoiday episodes, although you're entitled to your own opinion. One thing I am quite sure of however, is that this episode was not held back because the creators were unhappy with it. This one is # 108 because it is made early, but they wanted to release with the rest of the new episodes and release all of the holiday episodes at times when they would be appropriate.
