Plot getting stupid?

Has anyone else in this newsgroup been a long time South Park fan, and just now noticed that the plot may be getting stupid? For instance, in "Tom's Rhinoplasty", the kids get a substitute teacher, and she's a lesbian. Mr. Garrison gets a nose job. All is great, right? But wait! Miss Ellen turns out to be a criminal of the Iraqi government! C'mon, guys! Where the heck did THIS come from? Where does this fit into the plot?

And then, in "Mecha Streisand", Barbara Streisand collects these two ancient artifacts, that when joined, turn her into a monster. What the hell?

My opinion...

Ok have any of the plots ever made sense Well Aliens come from outer Space Where the hell did that come from THere is a monster named Skuzzlebutt where the hell did that come from I mean come on most of these shows are pulled out of no where you don't want them to be trendy off of other sitcomsand have an evil twin epuisode now do you. That would just be really crappy. And the STreisand Episode was taken off of a bunch of old Japaneese movies

2) i always find that comedy goes wrong when it tries to have a serious plot. just look at any comedy that wasn't really that funny, and it's because the writer/producers/directors spent too much time on serious plot development. my theories on movies aside, i think it's south park not caring about the plot. you have a show in which an 8y-year-old boy dies in every episode but also appears in every episode. the plot is part of the humor in being silly. although i don't want to allude to that-show-which-shall-not-be-named, this is like silly-funny.

Actually, she doesn't need ancient artifacts to turn into a monster. Didja ever really take a good look at her?? Ewwwwww.

I'm not exactly sure how you could have missed it, but Miss Ellen was not really a criminal from Iraq. If you watch it again, you'll notice that Wendy paid off the the Iraqi's to get rid of Miss Ellen, who she thought was competition for Stan's affection.

First, I'm suprised you didn't think a talking poo was silly enough.

Besides it was explained at the end of the episode that Wendy was behind the Iraqi's taking Ms. Ellen.

Thats the point. Half the reaon southpark is funny is because you don't know what is going to happen next, and half of the shit doesn't make sense. If you look at all the episodes they all have stuff that will just make you sit there and think .. where the hell did that come from?

I think "what the hell" was kinda the point of that episode. It wasn't supposed to be a plot that made sense. Who in their right minds would make a team of superheroes including Sydney Poitier, Leonard Maltin, and Robert Smith of the Cure? It's not supposed to make sense, it's just funny.

I agree, the plot escapes me, though I have yet to look for one on SP, however the GenX childhood references abound... Godzilla (mecca babs), Mothra (Robert Smith), Spectreman (Leonard Malten), and Gamra (Sidney Poitier), not to mention tetherball - not too common anymore (around here anyway)

plus the references to prior shows - Cartman Gets an Anal Probe - he grabs his butt after yelling "Alien" when Barbara Streisand's helicopter lands

What you have to realize David, is that the creators of the show have geared it to not the most intelligent of humour. I'll leave you with this...my father used to hate Beavis and Butt-Head...But, the two shows I got him to watch, he *had* to laugh, because (his words:) "It's just so stupid!"

Well, Miss Ellen wasn't really a criminal of the Iraqi government, but the victim of Wendy, who acted out on her previously-stated desire to have the man-stealing sub shot into the sun. I thought it fit the plot quite nicely.
