Hey SP fans,
Reading this morning's weekend box office's reports, I was disgusted that Baseketball is underperforming in the US. $3million b.o. take?
I can't believe this - as a movie critic and SP fan, who saw the movie late last month, I can safely say it should have none much better this weekend.
I don't know just how the film was marketed in the States, but here in the UK advance word of mouth is stellar, especially as SP is just taking off here in England.

People in this ng seem to be taking this awful personal. Keep in mind that Matt & Trey made this movie before South Park started last year, they have no responsibility for the movie, not producing, directing or writing. Now if their acting sucked, poor timing, delivery etc that may be something else.

Yeah, it's scheduled for August 28, but its poor US performance may result in it being shifted back or even (shock horror) end up going straight to video (not likely, though).

It's 15 (tbc). I doubt they'll class it 18 - Starship Troopers and Copland both managed to get 15 in cinemas...

They said that they _signed_ to do the movie before South Park started on CC because they didn't think the show would go beyond 6 episodes.
I thought their acting was fine. Not world class or steller, but fine (see their piece on the CNN site where they label themselvs "hactors"). I didn't have any doubts after seeing their hilarious South Park video introductions, but I'm sure their ability surprised some people. The critics who said that the acting was the weak point were on crack.
The movie itself was Good. Not Great and certainly not Bad like most critics seem to think. The major problem is as with most comedies, the movie was too gag oriented and not plot driven. They should have cut out several subplots in favor of making a much more coherent story.
I would have changed the movie so that the major plot was fighting Vaughn's character. It was too diluted in the movie. The sub-plots that I would have cut were:
o The fighting between Cooper and Remer. Given what they had gone through up to that point, it seemed unrealistic that they would have broke up over merchandising. The only point of this plot was to show Remer go Rodman, Cooper go to India, and the make-up kiss.
o Mute the Make a Wish foundation plot. The whole hospital scene could have gone.
o Either can the origins of BASEketball or show a better transition between them and the 5 years later. It was too jarring.
o Either more focus on "Lil' bitch" or get rid of him. He had a few moments, but it was mostly wasted potential.
Basically a more 70/80s cookie-cutter plot of almost complete focus on "Us against Them" (e.g.,Animal House) would have really made this movie shine.
Beyond that though, I enjoyed the movie. Well worth the matinee I paid and I would have paid evening too.

Don't blame the public, blame those idiot theater owners who don't know a thing about the rating systems and won't allow people under 18 to see it alone, even though you only have to be 17 to see an R rated movie.
