Fight the frizzies?

I don't get it

Well, I got the joke.

For most of us that may've seen this from one time or another, either from a local CBS flagship station, or by a bootleg copy recorded form the broadcast, may remember that 5 second news bumper seen a couple of times during the broadcast of the Star Wars Holiday Special.

The anchor of WCBS at the time (11.17.78)intoned to the viewers the line "Fighting the Frizzies at 11." Basically, what he was mentioning, was a tag to a report the station was going to do on their 11 o' clock news, possibly some safety tips for keeping warm during the winter. Trey & Matt must've seen this from their copy of the SWHS and decided to use it, possibly as part of a bet made over whether or not many of us would get the joke.

Luckily, most of us that have seen the 2-hour piece of crap special, may've came across that little bumper, but not taken it too lightly, only that if was perhaps rather weird to hear the "frizzies" remark, especially for most of us that probably hear the local weather forecasters who use their own jargon on tv stations like this. I thought it was rather funny by the end when they (Trey & Matt) went literally with that phrase and had the anchor fight with a giant "frizzie." That made me laugh.

Think of this little bit as kinda like the Brannif logo used at the end of every South Park episode. Some of us that remembered that airline had regaled about it now and then on this newsgroup, while the rest of us were still lost about the joke.
