Okay...in 417 "A Very Crappy Christmas" - we learn that Cartman sounds like he does because he is fat (Stan impersonating Cartman)
But in 415 "Fat Camp" when "Cartman" loses weight, he sounds the same, and no-one notices anything odd....so if his weight has nothing to do with it, why does he sound this way?

People can impersonate Cartman quite well, as Stan did in that episode. And Stan didn't offer any information on how Cartman would sound if he were thin.
That was the druggie impersonating Cartman - Cartman coached him on how to act and sound like Cartman. No one had any memory of Cartman sounding different as a thin kid, as he's never been thin, so they didn't protest the lack of change in voice. Kyle had his suspicions, though. But look at "Spontaneous Combustion" and you'll see Cartman on a cross - he sounds as if his lungs have shriveled.

Cartman doesn't loose weight in Fat Camp. The thin Cartman was an imposter.... But take a look at the end of 302 Spontaneous Combustion, where he's been left on a cross for three weeks...
