Nah, let's have her banned. Simpler. I'll get the Ban-a-BitchTM spray. You fill out the forms. Meet me at the cannon.
(Some folks are so ready to be insulted, they can't even wait until it actually happens....)
LW is right, Cynthia. Chill out. Your first post wasn't a sin; it was just sloppy enough to draw joking comments. Your hissyfit afterward was just dumb enough to draw more. Your other post, a one-liner containing nothing but a Timmy shout, was real stupid, but nobody complained (yet).
A newsgroup isn't like a chatroom, where messages just fly off the screen. Everything you say here LANDS here for everyone else to wade through. So if you load up a newsgroup with pointless crap, you'll piss off most of your audience and they'll return the favor. If you speak *when* you have something to say, and show a *little* care in putting it together, people may listen -- because they won't have a reason to assume you're a dildo.
BTW, nobody can be "banned" from a newsgroup. Individual *users* can have specific people filtered out (in a "killfile") so that we don't see their posts, but that's about it. It's likely that your last post earned you a spot in several people's killfiles. Anarchy works both ways.
You're having a grand old time telling me not to take anything said here seriously, while you seem to be doing exactly that. Try practicing what you preach sometime. I wasn't throwing a "hissyfit" (which I don't think is supposed to be one word, but you're obviously much more intelligent than I am), I was merely reacting to being ganged up on.
Also, your "Ban-a-bitch" spray won't work on me. I'm wearing my "pompous-jackass proof vest." Now please do everyone a favor and go get a life. Excuse me, since you seem to be in love with your asterisk key, go get a *life*.
BTW: My "Timmy" post wasn't "real stupid." It was "really stupid." If you're all going to criticize my mistakes, at least use proper grammar when you do so. It's becoming very clear to me why you like South Park so much. Your English teacher was talking about Barnaby Jones instead of teaching you how to be literate - just like Mr. Garrison!

I could make a bad Dan Quayle joke here, but I'll suppress it.
Damn, I forgot, it has no effect on reptiles.
Oh, please. I misused "real" as an adverb, deliberately, for EFFECT. For someone as sloppy as you to rag on anyone about grammar is enough to make me laugh myself into a coma. (But I'll give you 2 points for not misspelling the word "grammar," which is a common embarrassment for those of your ilk.)
One thing you haven't grasped, and may never, is that "we all" (all 2 of us -- ooh, such a "ganging up") were mainly criticizing your innate sloppiness -- sloppiness that would probably make you a fairly worthless contributor to this group -- not your "mistakes" per se. In the final analysis nobody gives a damn how you spell Cartman. What provoked the responses was the fact that YOU didn't give a damn how you came across.
Summary:
You think people can be "banned" from newsgroups. You also called this newsgroup a "news post." And you posted a binary to a text group. If you were much more of a newbie than all that, you probably wouldn't even know how to get here in the first place. Those things prove only that you're an uppity novice. You're rapidly validating the rest of your instant profile -- that you're a loud, prissy, abrasive, self-absorbed princess who can't handle any kind of feedback except praise. Cartman would eat you for breakfast and shit you out by dinnertime.
Newsflash: Both the South Park TV show and the South Park newsgroup are not patient with people who take themselves too seriously -- especially those who do that and then claim they aren't. Huffier bitches than you have waltzed in here all taffeta and attitude, only to run out screaming soon afterward.......or be killfiled by almost everyone, which has the same effect. Either way, it's as if you were never here. Whether that happens or not is up to you. Did you come here to be loved, or to be real?
I came here to be neither loved nor real, you arrogant bastard. I came here to discuss South Park. In all honesty, why would I care what some useless bag of wind like you thinks about me?
As far as newsgroups go, I never received the memo stating that all posts were to be done in a well-thought-out, professional manner. Doesn't that kind of takes away from the "fun" of any newsgroup, especially one based on a cartoon? Who exactly named you the "newbie instructor" around here? If I was this pathetic newbie that you describe, then I would probably never come back to this group. If every newbie is treated this way and goes away, the group is going to end up missing out. Once the newbies "mature", they would be good contributors to the discussions. Not that you care, of course, because the only opinions you're concerned with are your own long-winded rants.

Oh, I never said YOU cared. The point is, after the general curiosity about you wears off, fewer and fewer of the people here will even bother to listen to you at all, so you'll basically be screaming into the void.
This newsgroup has existed since late 1997 and has survived far worse disruptions than you could ever create or imagine. But beyond that, most newbies aren't treated this way. It's just the ones who arrive with a big bug up their ass, as you have. You're such easy targets. It's become such a predictable pattern, I'd almost expect a South Park episode about frothy-mouthed newsgroup screamers -- except that we've already had Mecha-Streisand....
Though I don't typically correct people's typos, what Mark wrote is basically correct. The way to handle being corrected on typos is to do nothing at all (and then contribute usefully), or simply post "Ooops!" (and then contribute usefully). If you get hissy in any way, you *will* be attacked (again in fun, to see how thick your skin is). As far as worrying about newbies, I just don't. Any "newbie" that can't handle being flamed isn't going to last on Usenet -- not here, not anywhere. Not anywhere fun, at least. If they can't take it, oh well...so sad...boo hoo.

Why don't you enlighten us and tell us how SHE disrupted the newsgroup? From what I've read, she posted a question (with typos of course, God help us) that related directly to the topic of the group. Then you show up and basically blame the fall of western civilization on "shreiking newbies like her."
I have no problem with flames, they've been there since the beginning and they'll always be there. There are people out there, though, who honestly don't know when to end a sentence or when to capitalize. If your response to them is always going to be "you don't care enough to not be sloppy when you post" then they're going to end up being embarrassed and not coming back. I'm probably alone in this, but I think that flaming should be reserved for people who come off .. well ... like you, Mark. People who feel that the only opinion that matters is their own. People who feel that this is THEIR newsgroup, and how dare anyone else post in it - let alone post a sloppy message. Oh yeah ... and Amway sales people, the annoying nude site posts, and the "this show shouldn't be on the air because I'm too lazy to keep my kid from seeing it" people - they should all be flamed too.

The reason everyone is complaining about Cynthia is that she honestly could handle a little criticism better than she has. YOU are the reason most people don't even bother posting in the newsgroups anymore - you and your *ilk*. It's amazing to me that although most of you have been telling my wife not to take this stuff seriously, you were the one who started whining and calling her a bitch, Mark. The rest of the gang was having good clean fun, but you had to get nasty about it. Now I'll say to you what you said to her - go back and read your original post and tell us you weren't being nasty just for the hell of it. There was no call for it, Lone Wolf had already told her to lighten up, that it was just a joke. I guess the pressure to rip apart a newbie - a woman at that - was just too much for you. I'm all for equality between men and women, but just because she used her real name and you new she was a woman, one of the first words you typed was "bitch". I didn't see anyone else doing that before or since. Why don't you just leave your computer alone and go play with the rest of the little rascals in the "he-man woman haters club"?
Son -- we may assume -- wrote:
Not true. You're evidently missing key posts in the history of this whole speedbump. Her first reply to the 2 users who sent lightweight jabs at her misspelling of "Cartman" (note that neither of them was me) was a screechy, frothy, and undeniably BITCHY tirade, very generally addressed to the whole newsgroup ("you guys out there"), even though only 2 people had said a thing to her at that point.
Evidently not "all", if you think it's somehow more sinful to lambaste "a woman at that" for being abrasive and immature. Nobody's off-limits on Usenet, and people who make selfish, screechy posts generally get torn to shreds REGARDLESS of their sex. I would've ignored the whole thread if Madame hadn't gone off like a bottle rocket. But her earliest yelp showed the maturity of a 6-year-old and the charm of a pitbull. And if you really are her husband, it shows even more immaturity (and incidentally, sexism) that she felt the need to drag you in to defend her, uhh, honor.
Nah, YOU go back and read hers. Then read, especially, the last two paragraphs of my first post (Monday night), which mainly explained WHY she got crapped on. She chose to take it all as an insult, and you chose to take grand purple offense on her behalf -- and all for a 5-letter word that has almost always figured prominently in the TV show this newsgroup is about.
Someone else just pointed out to me in private email that the phrase "Kyle's mom's a...." has the same number of syllables and the same basic rhythm as "Son's wife's a...." I'm not crass enough to finish that off, but someone else might if you keep this up.

Did anyone else take it as far as you did? Did anyone else see any reason to? The honest answer to both questions would be "No." I understand where everything came from, I read all of the messages. She'll be the first to admit that she never ran across flaming before. That's why she called the guys "harsh." The other newsgroups that she's an active participant in don't rip people up - most likely because their topic of discussion isn't a cartoon about a bunch of eight year olds who like to rip each other up. As I said, she was unprepared for the responses, and made an unprepared response herself.
She didn't drag me into it - I hopped in voluntarily because of the way you handled (or mishandled) the whole situation. My point in all of this is that calling a person a bitch just because you can see by their name that they're a woman smacks of the same bad taste (not to mention sportsmanship) as calling someone a Christkiller because you can see by their name that they're Jewish. The simple fact is that she made some mistakes in her early posts, and not just typos - I realize that, and you had to start calling her a bitch. As I said, other people had already corrected her on it. I thought that Lone Wolf's post was appropriate - yours wasn't even close.
That's logical. Because the eight year olds call women bitches, it's OK for people to do it in real life. I see. Where's the alt.movies.southpark newsgroup so I can label you what you are - an uncle f**ker?
Oh dear God, no...please...
Get over yourself, newsgroup Nazi.
That wasn't your first gripe; it was about my being unsweet to a newbie who was (gasp) "a woman at that" and therefore deserved extra coddling, even if she was acting like a spoiled child. That's sexist nonsense.
As for choice of terms, I've seen male users called a a dick, a prick, a fag, an old coot, a fat bastard, etc. -- all epithets that are pretty well reserved for men. But I know we'd all have a big laugh if anyone started declaring those terms off-limits here. Your wife got treated the way anyone else would have. And in light of her outbursts, I think any mention of sportsmanship is laughable.
That's ONE simple fact. Another is that she lashed out like a fireball at 2 lighthearted barbs, and continued for some time. If, as you claim, she has experience in other NGs, she'd know better than to whip herself into a red-eyed frenzy over such remarks or post a broadside rip to a group she's only just joined. I'd hate to see how much glassware this lady throws if she finds herself slighted at a cocktail party.
In any case, arguing with you about her is just plain weird, so I'll quit here. If you'd like to get the last word, go riiiiiight ahead.
BTW I took special care to avoid the word "banshee" so as not to upset you further.
I'd like to apologize to the entire group for my ranting. After having things explained to me concerning the nature of the group by someone nice enough to take time out and do so, I will openly admit that we were wrong in the way we handled things. I'll also be the first to admit that we didn't do any research into the group - didn't see how people responded to each other, and ignorance is no excuse.
I was also wrong in not letting Cindy handle the situation herself - it made her look worse, which I apologize to her directly for.
Regardless, as Mark stated, I think it's about time for this thread to die. Unless, of course, you guys wish to take some well-earned pot-shots at me, which would be thoroughly understandable.

Having watched the sparks fly I was going to say you both seemed snippy for no reason. But this hairy apology with stinger at the end makes you look as bad as Cynthia. But enough there. I do thinkthe main fault is Cynthia's. She needs to grow up before she visits any more newsgroups. There won't always be someone to 'explain' it.
