Cannibal!

Everyone who liked BLU should go out and rent "Cannibal! The Musical". This is one of the funniest movies I've ever seen and I would love to see it get the attention it deserves.

Actually a lot of BLU was kind of inspired by Cannibal!, I thought. Especially the songs: "Up There" was a rewrite of "When I Was on Top of You", another scathing parody of Disney bullshit songs.

There were other similarities. The whole opening sequence was a lot like a scene in Cannibal!

Anyway, go rent this flick! The songs are good (actually much better than BLU), the production values are actually amazing for a film school project, and the humor is great (although a little more subtle and not as outrageous as in BLU).

OK, that's my plug. Blockbuster doesn't carry Cannibal! (the idiots) but a lot of indie stores do.

Speaking of BLU and Cannibal similarities, and (I realize this is probably reaching but...) .. could the doctor's replacing Kenny's heart with a heated baked potato be a reference to the Shpadoinkle (sp) song? ("My heart's as warm as a baked potato....")

Something that's been bugging me since I saw BLU...

What I love about both, though, is that instead of making a bunch of "hip" in-jokes, they draw from things like Broadway musicals and power ballads.

My favorite was the Trappers song. Also, that "Hang the Bastard" song was funny because it was so much like the singing "townspeople" scenes in musicals.

Definitely rent it.

Only thing is, there are a bunch of annoying Troma trailers at the beginning.

Who the hell hasn't seen this movie anyways? I own this movie, there is a sale at Troma, the distributor's, it 50% off of the sale price. Is Shpadoinkle a real word, BTW? It seems to fit any occasion, so I doubt it, but I wondered it it's a regional thing.

Trey said when he was writing that song ("The sky is blue.." etc) he knew it was a "(something) day" and it had to be 3 syllables, so he just sang "shpadoinkle" until he could think of a real word. It was just a nonsense word. But somehow it stuck, so they started using it throughout the movie.
