Should we create alt.tv.southpark.fanfics?

Dudes! Should we create alt.tv.southpark.fanfics ?!

There has been a lot (okay, only a little) talk about creating a newsgroup: alt.tv.southpark.fanfics. Creating a newsgroup could have serious repercussions on the 'alt.' hierarchy, however. We need to find out who thinks it's a good idea and who thinks it's a bad idea. Take a vote, you know. We need some good reasons to create a seperate group, and we have to know who would read/post (to) it. So, if you're for creating alt.tv.southpark.fanfics, reply and say that you're for it, and give some good reasons. :) If you're against creating a newsgroup, reply and tell why it would be a bad idea (I already know a few suggestions) Because the problem is, it could be read a lot for a little while, and then ignored later. We DON'T want that to happen.

And yes, we're perfectly capable of creating a new newsgroup. It's really easy, but I don't think we could just create a group and be happy.

If it is decided that creating a.tv.sp.ff, then we'lll post to alt.config and figure out what the general opinion is. If it's agreed, we can write the FAQ/ homepage/whatever and then we can actually create the group.

So c'mon, get those fingers ready to type and debate!! :)

I'm all for creating a separate group for fanfics, particularly because I won't have to read them if they're separate. No offense to the few of you who write good ones, but so many of them are just so lame.

To make a good newsgroup, we have to have a FAQ. I'd be happy to do it... anyone else want to volunteer? Without a FAQ, an alt.tv.sp.ff newsgroup would, to quote either Terrance or Phillip, suck ass.

Anyway. I've figured out how to send a control message, but first we need to write a charter for this newsgroup and post to alt.config. Here's what I gots:

CHARTER alt.tv.southpark.fanfics is an unmoderated newsgroup devoted to scripts of South Park written by the fans. Fans can post scripts and comment on them. Non-fanfic related material can be directed to alt.tv.southpark, the parent group.

FYI: A charter is a short thing that tells about the NG.

You can't just go into Netscape News and choose 'New Newsgroup' from the File menu. :)
