Don't even tell me that I can run RM with a modem. It's not true. RM over a modem is like running Windows NT on an 8086. It's not even close to usable.
You could always download the rm files and replay them as often as you like.
I use RM with a 56k modem, and have *never* had a problem.

I know that I should understand what this says, since it's English and all, but I really haven't a clue what this means.
Since I would love to be able to save this particular thingee, is there some other way that you can explain it so that computer illiterates like me can understand it?
Exact instructions on how to delete your temporary internet cache file(s) are going to depend on your browser, browser version, etc.
Somebody correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think it's technically necessary to delete the cache anyway; it just makes finding the file you're looking for easier.
If you use IE4, the "Temporary Internet Files" subdirectory should be in your Windows directory. If you use IE5, you need to go one level further into a directory called CONTENT.IE5, which is contained in the "Temporary Internet Files" directory. There will eventually be some directories if you drill down far enough that will have random names. These are your temporary internet cache directories. The file is supposedly in one of those. If you use Netscape or some other browser, ask someone else. ;) Wait, I see that you are an AOL user and probably use the standard AOL interface. I have no idea where things are stored with such.

I actually did once find the cache files, quite by accident, and never was able to locate them again. Perhaps, like Brigadoon, they only appear once every 100 years.

Thanks for the quick reply. I have used this method to save QuickTime and ShockWave files before, but I could never get it to work with RealPlayer. This was a couple years ago and I was using Windows NT 4/SP3 while trying to do this. The files would be 0 length. I am fairly certain that RealPlayer was configured to supposedly buffer the entire clip. I will try again with my current system, which uses Win98SE. Maybe the problem was that RealPlayer would only buffer the clip to memory instead of the cache?

It's the way the site is set up. I got the same 118 byte file, and all it contained was the name and location of the .RAM, the title and copyright information.
It may have more to do with your browser software than your OS or how it's configured. I'm running Netscape 4.04 on an OS/2 PC. When I load http://www.uprightcitizens.org/repository I can right click on any listed link and choose "save Link As..." from the context menu. All I have to do then is select a directory, give the file a name and click ok, the entire file downloads directly, not as it's being run through Real Player.

That's my point. I still don't know how a person would go about downloading this to their hard drive.
I'm running IE5 (latest updates) on a Win98-SE Athlon, but I don't think that's relevant in this case as I can do the same thing you can at http://www.uprightcitizens.org/repository, but that doesn't really help for the clips I mentioned. (The clips listed on that page do not include the clips I mentioned.) I can download the clips listed there, but I already have those...
Thanks for your help, though. If you or anyone else figure out a definitive way to download Real___ clips, please post it. Although this specific thread became a discussion about how to download UCB clips, it would help us download SP clips as well.

This issue almost certainly doesn't deal with browser version, OS platform, PC/MAC, etc. My current theory is that you can just put a Real file on the net and have it "downloadable" like any other file. Then the Save Target As (or similar command) would work. However, there is also a way to put the content on the web so that it *must* be streamed/cannot be saved to one's hard drive for offline access. This is by design, most likely. I'm sure that many content creators appreciate that there is a way to put one's video/audio clip on the net and not give others the ability to save them and possibly republish them elsewhere, at least not easily.
Don't think that just because you have been able to download some Real clips simply means that you know how to download all Real clips simply.
* Don't just shorten the URL to go into the Repository directory. Yes, there are links there to Real files that one can download quite easily. However, the two files in question do not have links on that page. Visible ones, at least.

No, my standards are higher than yours. I want it to look like TV at worst, like DVD at best, and won't accept less than that. Period. These days, I don't watch anything using Real Media. Maybe it's your computer or the file itself. Real Player, on it's own, performs admirably.
I've downloaded dozens of .rm and .ram files from a wide variety of web sites, and they always play without jumpiness or dropouts. And as for audio, jeez, it always comes in crystal clear. In fact, if I hooked my PC up to my stereo instead of using the little speakers it came with, I probably couldn't tell the difference between RP and a CD or FM radio.

Well, with streaming media, the .ram file you click on to access is just really a text file with a link to the actual .rm file, so just by saving the .ram file and then viewing it in like Notepad you'll find the location.
Granted, if the beginning of the url DOESN'T start with "http://" you prolly won't be able to download it.

It helps. The URLs in the CC ram files to the three-year anouncement don't begin with "http://." Files that do begin this way I can simply download directly or with GetRight.
