Does anyone have a list of where the tunes from SP:BLU come from? They're not *entirely* original are they? I'm sure I recognise quite a few of the tunes and I'd swear that the beginning of 'Blame Canada' is from Miss Saigon. Anyone spot any others?

It seems that some of the music in South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut paid tribute to such musicals as West Side Story and Oklahoma! Mountain Town and Uncle F***ka were obviously parodies of tunes from Oklahoma! while the La Resistance Medley was similar in style to the medley from West Side Story.
La Resistance screams, "Les Miserables" to me. In Les Mis, for those who haven't seen it, immediately before the intermission is a song, "One Day More", which starts with the main character singing solo, and brings more and more of the characters in, each singing their own themes, ending with them all singing at once before the curtain falls. The song is about how everything is coming to a head the next day (one day more).
The parallels are spooky if La Resistance isn't a reference to this song. For a start, there's the blatant French reference. the style of the two is identical. They're both about how everything is coming to a head tomorrow (One Day More versus Tomorrow Night), and the event that everything leads up to in both cases is a climactic battle.

The same thing was done circa 1957 in "Tonight" from "West Side Story". Tony, Maria, Anita, the Sharks and the Jets all sing their visions of what the the night will bring. Saw it on stage (not in 1957), but don't remember how it was presented. In the movie it was a 4 or 5 part medley, much like SP:BLU, IIRC.
"Tonight", of course, is another example of being careful what one wishes for. One of the lines (Tony's, I think) is "Make this endless day, endless night, tonight". Tony is killed that night.

The part in "I Can Change" where Saddam gets all flustered and has to calm down always reminds me of Veruca's song "I Want It Now" in Willy Wonka...
And "Up There" by Saddam is like the song "Out There" from Hunchback of Notre Dame.
