Are sped up,or do the people talk like that without problems?,also how do they do the babys voices?
THE KIDS VOICES

All I know is that in the movie Baseketball, Trey actually does Cartman's voice right out of his mouth.

He also did Mr. Garrison when he said, "Oh I'm sorry. I guess I'm the only one who cares about kids."
He also did Counselor Mackey during one of the live intros on the VHS that had Mr. Hanky's first episode (first app. of Mackey, too).

Trey seems to do Cartman's voice right out of his own mouth. For Stan and Kyle, maybe they hold their noses... As I recall, Mel Blanc seemed to do the Looney Toons characters voices without any sound processing.
I'd like to know how they make Terrence and Phillip's farting sounds. And Cartman's fire farting in Anal Probe. And Kenny's explosive diarrhea in Death.

Actually, Blanc's voice was sped up for Daffy.

Pretty sure they're pitch shifted. Ike is a couple of babies, whichever says the cutest thing gets used in the show when they need it. Someone else prolly knows a bit more.
I posed a question on the website (never got an answer) about how they did all the songs. If they'e pitch-shifted, then they have to have some music in an entirely different key on the tracks but in the same time as the final music.
And with keys changing all the time in "Dredl" this could be a tough one...

Not so tough, really. They could create the intrumentals first, slow them (or shift the pitch) down to record the kids' lines, and play the whole thing at normal speed to record the adult lines.
The kids' voices are indeed pitch-shifted up while Satan is pitch-shifted down. And there are a bunch of kids who provide the voices for Ike, the Squirts, and other kindergartners. Except for kindergartners who need to have coherent lines.
you just record the tracks that have to be sped up, speed them up, record the normal vocals separately, record the music seperately, then mix them.

Ah-hah... and you've tried this?? Think about the songs in the movie. We're talking full ensemble here. The best way to do those would be to record the voices LAST. So, if you have digital technology, you can conceivably slow the entire project down up to a 5th and record the voices, but you are gong to get weirdness in the execution of consonants. It'd be much easier to lay down a click track (and I hear everyone does it these days and no one suffers), finish the actual instrumental parts, then have someone come in and lay down a keyboard track in the other key (this would be fun to hear -- sort of Ivesian), and you'd sing against that and then that would be electronically moved up.

Witness the numerous "Chipmunks" albums, all of which were pitch-shifted, IIRC.

That technique just doesn't work right. Slowing it down say, a whole tone or maybe three semitones is no problem, but when you do it a full octave you get all kinds of problems with not only the timbre (I can correct for most instruments but definitely not voices), but also the exection of sybillants (sp?) and such. Electronic transposition will require someone playing it in a different key against the click track (and everyone uses them nowadays -- and nothing's wrong with them).
Speaking form my knowlage as a sound technician, you can bend pitch to any level you want. with out slowing down or speedin up the tape. I do it with a nice peice of $5000 equipment, but you can also do this with a Creative Live! or Audigy sound card. Basically, the music is produced, the songs are sung normal speed, then the voices are lifted to the proper pitch. Why do you think they are always PERFECTLY in key "D.G. pitch-shifted,
The wonders of digital. Still, there must be something for the singers to sing against "at normal speed" since it is not the correct pitch. Not everyone is George Ives teaching his son Charlie to sing in Eb while George plays in C.
Zappa had something back in 1968 that did this with saxophones but it was limited to a minor 3rd. Again, instruments vs. voices -- sybillants do not work when speeding up in analog too far.
I can never do that without introducing stuttering or overlapping....
Besides spending more money, what's the best way to do it?
