I don't have Comedy Central, so I've never seen a complete episode. But I have seen clips on other TV shows (most of which are bitching about the cotent), that are almost always filled with bleeps. I assumed that the bleeping was done the people showing the clips, but judging from various fanfics, it occurs to me that they bleep "fuck" even on the show itself. Is this true?

And if they do bleep all the fucks, what the hell is that TV-MA rating for? Seems to me if it's rated TV-MA, that's like a licence to say fuck as many times as you want. That's what TV-MA is for!

Also, do the home videos come uncensored?

COnsidering that the FCC considers "fuck" to be the worst word ever invented, I'm not surprised that it's censored. Also bear in mind that Comedy Central is not a pay cable channel like HBO, Cinemax, or Showtime (unfortunately) and as a result, they have to control their language to some extent.

Yes, but that's logic speaking... and since when has the US government ever used logic? Of COURSE it would be nice if the show was uncensored, but too many old assholes running the government have fucked it up for everyone else based on their own antiquated beliefs of morality. It's better than it was 50 years ago, but we still have a long way to go.

No, and that REALLY pisses me off.

Thanks for the info guys.

I can't tell you how dissapointed I am that they sensor the F-word. I mean if they REALLY wanted to, they could say it. Take "Schindler List," another boadcast that was rated TV-MA, and it was chock full of "fuck"s (not to mention graphic violene, and I think they even slipped in some frontal nudity). And that wasn't even cable, it was NBC.

Thats because it was of a historical event that happened. Hey they show nudity on Natioanl Geographic too! Usually, when it is a documentation of great improtance, they will let it go, like Schindler's List.

But hey, I think they should let "shit" ride, they did on NYPD Blue!!

That's funny, I thought _Schindler's List_ was a "feature film". I didn't realize that it was a documentary.

It *was* a feature film; however, it was based on a true story, so it was *almost* a documentary...

I saw it. I was an excellent film, but it was *not* a documentary. It was a fictional account of a story *based on* real events. It was not, as the original post said, a "documentation of great importance", but an artist's rendering of events.

So much of our understanding of history comes from films disguising themselves as "true stories" that it's no wonder most people don't understand history. _Schindler's List_ is a great film, but you have to remember that it's a *film*, not a textbook account of history.

So how do you explain the US Superbowl? They had cameras in the huddle before the teams came out and they were all getting pumped up saying things like. "Let's kick their f**king a**es" and "F*CK YEAH!!!" over and over. This is not a serious subject at all.

That's because it was live, duh. You can't censor something when it's live.

Ok if you had half of a brain you might know something. First of all schindler's list was a factual even based on a very tragic and famous event in histroy. If you payed any attention to the news, they busted their asses off and got soo much criticism over the fact that they let all of this get onto air. It was a show meant for adults, any good parent would not show their kid a show with all the tragedy like that at such a young age. South Park however is a completely different scenario. It is entirely meant for entertainment. And it obviously appeals to kids with the fact that it is a cartoon. Watch just about any show on TLC or a channel like that they have nudity. The only reason they let this slip by is b3ecause it is for an educational purpose and is meant to inform others of such events and knowledge.

Really? Stop paying you're cable/satellite bill and then tell me that........ Just because its "usually" part of basic programming does not mean it's a free channel. Sorry but since I have a C-Band Satellite dish I pay seperately for all channels and while the comedy channel may only be .35 cents or so a month, it's still a pay cable station. -Dave

The FCC has no jurisdiction over cable TV, only broadcast.

Always bleeps over here but only on the word "fuck"...eg when Stan says..."Things are pretty fucked up right here"

I totally condone that though...you'd never catch me fucking swearing!!

Surely there are ruder words than fuck? I mean Mother fucker is definately considered worsse in many countries and cunt is a very rude word in Britain. As conissuers of the late twentieth centuary, surely we are not frightened of some little old Anglo Saxon word like Fuck.

Same is true with saying God Damn. On TV they usually bleep the word God and we only hear Damn. South Park is one of the first to get away with God Damn in it's entirety. The song "Life In The Fast Lane" on the radio also gets away with it as in "Haven't seen a God Damned thing".

Late at night in my local area many years ago we had a radio station that would even play songs with the word FUCK in them as in Guns 'N Roses "Mr. Brownstone" - "That old man he's a mean mother fucker gonna kick him on down the line."

Speaking of that song. . .it just struck me a few months ago what that song, that i'd bopped happily around my room to at the age of 10, is about: it's basically just a guy begging for sex. Yet another indication of my lost innocence. . . ;-)

Yes, it is.

Well... TV-MA is there for lots of reasons... anyone ever see the talk-show parody "Night Stand?" It airs on "E" at 10 or 10:30 every Monday-Friday night. Not a curse word in it (except for maybe the occasional "dammit"). About half of the shows get rated "TV-MA" not for language (there's not one bleep in the show), not for nudity, not for violence, but for sexual innuendo. Nothing explicit at all... just implied.

'Sides... (and I'll get flamed for this one, I'm sure)... it's MUCH funnier bleeped.

No. If you want that, get Springer or COPS. :-)
