how do they do the voices?

does anyone know how trey and matt do the voices of the kids? I always wondered if they used something to speed up their voices, or if they can just change their voices to sound like that.

I'm assuming that they don't use any voice-changing equipment. I can't speak for Matt but I've heard Trey do Cartman and Mr. Hankey on many occassions (he did both of them for us at the Baseketball shoot)..

But the kids are different. I know MKB did Wendy's voice with no speed ups, but the guys speed up the kids. Cartmans voice is speeded up on the computer. I'm not too sure aboot the others!

It was on that 'Goin' Down To South Park' documentary.

Yep. It's also in "Behind the Menu." Cartman's voice was demonstrated for the show. Some of the voices Trey and Matt do can be duplicated without speeding them up, like Gregrory and Mark, The Mole, Cartman, Kenny... But generally, Trey and Matt do the boys' voices at a lower register and more slowly than normal, then have computers speed the voices up to sound like boys.

What's that?

Oops. My bad. Cartman's voice is not demonstrated there. "Behind the Menu" was Comedy Central's answer to VH1's "Behind the Music" for "Chef Aid." It told of Chef's involvement in the music world and how all the (live) guests in the episode and on the CD were influenced by Chef. There were guests on the special who were not on the CD or in the episode.

You can see Trey in BASEketball doing the voice of Cartman psyching out his oponient, (Ah!"you guys seriously I'm fucking fat!")Mr Garrison while Coop was arguring with Remer in one of the shower scenes, ("Forgot about that Remer cares about kids!") and the voice of Mr. Hankey singing lyrics to Journey(Steeeeve Perry!) by trying to psyche out Remer while Squeak(Dian Bachar from Cannibal!,SP, Orgazmo,Galaxy Quest,Rocky & Bullwinkle) was trying to shut off the gas but gets his ass kicked by Jenkins. And on the BASEketball DVD where they show the behind the scenes look of the film it shows Trey sitting at the table at the BASEketball set looking at a Mr. Hankey doll saying "Hooooowdy Ho!" On the 2 sets of South Park videos Vols 1-3 and 4-6 with the Matt & Trey intros, on one of the first season vids,where they introduce "Volcano" on one of the Fireside Chats, Trey does the voice of Ned it sounds different from what you hear on the show. And one of the 4-6 vids where they introduce "Mr. Hankey:The Christmas Poo" on the Cowboy chats, Trey talks about his counselar from high school Mr. Lackey which is based on Mr. Mackey,does his voice "Now, Trey don't run in the hallways mmkay?" or something like that. About Matt in Cannibal!:The Musical, his Humphries character sounds a lot like Stan's Uncle Jimbo Kerns. And I saw him do the voice of Kyle on a online E! interview about BASEketball,it sounded the same to me and when the South Park movie came out, Entertainment Tonight had a online interview of Matt & Trey at the premire and the interviewer asked Matt do the voice of Kenny and he covered his mouth and did Kenny's voice,I forgot what he said though. I also heared Matt do Mr. Garrison once from an phone interview that was dead-on,I remember them saying if they were animated on a episode of South Park, Trey would do Matt's voice and Matt would do Trey's voice.

They could do it...I remember getting hella confused when I used to listen to the intro to HornyHornyHorny on the chef aid cd.
