A little tied up right now: Trey Parker and Matt Stone, center, hold Terry Gilliam's mother, Beatrice, hostage in a Monty Python tribute that will air on A&E. South Park creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker are wanted for kidnapping!
On Saturday, the British Broadcasting Corp. aired a video of Stone and Parker holding the 82-year-old mother of director Terry Gilliam hostage, rope-bound to a chair. The duo's ransom demand: that he agree to direct an episode of Comedy Central's South Park cartoon.
Gilliam's response to the ransom demand: "They can keep my mother. Her bondage fetish has always been an embarrassment to the family."
It was all in fun, a tribute created for BBC's 30th anniversary special on the recently reunited Monty Python comedy troupe. Parker and Stone are longtime Python fans. Gilliam, a Python veteran, is the director of films such as Brazil, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, and the cult classic Monty Python and the Holy Grail.
On the telecast, the video was preceded by an animated South Park short re-creating Python's "Dead Parrot" routine, with Kenny as the corpse. In the end, everyone is squished by a giant foot, the international symbol of Monty Python's wry, witty British humor. The skit was the brainchild of longtime Python friend and producer, Martin Lewis.
Lewis says the five-minute video will air in the USA sometime this fall, when A&E presents a trimmed edition of BBC's Python tribute.
As for her part in the conspiracy, mum Beatrice Gilliam says: "I watched the South Park show the week before I was going to meet Matt and Trey. I had to switch it off after five minutes because it was so rude. But then, I don't like a lot of Terry's films. I keep asking him to make something I would like to see, like a nice romantic film."
