Critics....BLAH (Also, a little note on "Disturbing Behavior")

Ok. Remember that thread (Why is BASEketball bombing in theatres) and how we got into a convo about critics? Well, just for the record, most of the time I don't even listen to the ratings they give. I mean, they gave "The Horse Whisperer" 4 stars. And, I mean, it was a good movie! But do you know WHY the critics gave it 4 stars? Because it doesn't have any sick jokes, it's a beautiful story about love and all the crap, and it's nothing like "BASEketball" in any way, shape, or form. Critics are like that. Thay rate those "beautiful" movies, like "The Horse Whisperer", highly and they rate movies with sick, sexual jokes and "terrible" story lines (I'm not critisizing BASEketball, I LOVED it!), though they may be terribly funny, badly. So all I'm saying is critics are usually wrong about the sick, sexual (but REALLY funny) movies.

This has nothing to do with South Park, but it has to do with the Critics topic. I wanted to go to the movies a few days ago, but I had seen most of them. So then I saw "Disturbing Behavior" listed in the Showtime section. They gave it 1 1/2 stars! I couldn't believe it, since all my friends at camp were talking about it like it was the best movie on the planet. As I stated before, I always think critics are wrong with this type of movie, so I went. An hour and ten minutes leter, the movie was over. It was the worst movie I had ever seen! It had no plot, they stuck scenes in there that didn't make any sense just to make the movie longer, probably, the main character had a problem with something that didn't really have anything to do with the story, the list just goes on and on! So, in conclusion, sometimes you can trust a critic, sometimes you can't. I sudgest going to blockbuster instead. :)

I had the misfortune of sitting through 'Disturbing Behavior' myself. You gotta see the crap to appreciate the good stuff. Anyone who has ever watched a 'Twilight Zone' episode would have dozed off in the middle of that one. That plot has been so done I don't understand why they did it again. It reminded me of a John Saul book I read one dark and stormy night called 'Creature'. Same premise of kid coming to new town and something is amiss....genetic altering of student athletes that turn them into MONSTERS......

Anyway, the new 'Halloween: H20' just left me feeling the same way. Oh the wonderful things they could have done with that movie. You know a movie sucked when you spend the ride home thinking up alternate plots for it.

I've read the same book. I was pretty weird, from what I remember. Really weird shit happens to those poor teens in that book...and it wasn't pretty. Science experiments being done on unsuspecting people in a small town. It's been done before so many times.

I know this is not the topic of the NG, but in keeping with the theme of this string, I have to say that "Disturbing Behavior" did suck. The plot was non-existant and the acting was sub-par to say the least. BUT <emphasis on the but> Katie Holmes is a HOTTIE, that and only that is the reason I saw that movie. I expected it to suck. I guess thats just my opion so leave it at that. Thanx

Don't know what critiques you've read but the couple that I read had nothing against "sick, sexual jokes" just unfunny sick, sexual jokes. The same critics who panned Mafia & BASEkeball raved about Private Parts & Something About Mary.

A little note about critics:

A critic's opinion is just that: One person's opinion. Everyone's entitled to one, and most of the time, people disagree on them. The trick is to find a critic you agree with most of the time, and then just read her/his reviews.

Then all will come to a happy conclusion.
