Computer users hate webtv users becuase they think they are smarter than them. They want to believe they're better than everyone else. But if they have nothing better to do than make fun of WebTV users, they're just pathetic. I'm not going to stop posting in a group becuase a computer user told me to go away. Your stuck with us.

I'm a WebTV user and I'm damn proud of it. I am also a big South Park fan. Those anti-WebTV people out there keep saying that WebTV users like myself have nothing useful to offer to this newsgroup here. Just look at my cool post here with sounds and pictures from South Park. Kick ass!

Actually, there are a few reasons. For one, my news reader doesn't support HTML (and who needs it? If I want HTML, I hit the Web.) so webtv posts all have this crap in them:

This one isn't so bad, but some of them go on for pages, and some of them have been known to blow people out of Usenet simply for trying to load these 'faulty' posts.
The other reason (and I know this doesn't apply to EVERYONE, but it does apply to a large percentage of webtv'ers as well as many, many aolers) is that they are new to the internet, and obviously have not read the FAQ. I see replies to posts where they don't clip the 20 line .sig files in their responses. Or clipping the wrong lines so as to attribute quotes to people who didn't write them. 'Me too' posts that do nothing but waste bandwidth, they also seem to be the most gullible when it comes to responding to trolls.
Bear in mind that these are generalizations, and newbies will make these mistakes regardless of their ISP, but it seems that a larger percentage of AOLers and webtvers fall into this category.
(Also bear in mind that 'newbie' is not an insult, it simply means someone new to the Net. I've been flamed for calling a newbie a newbie. Can you believe that? What a 'newbie' thing to do!)
As far as descriminating against ISP's, well, I don't do that. But I do descriminate against bullshit posts that waste my time when I read them and it seems that the number of these posts has increased proportionally with the number of people who subscribe to webtv.

Upon AOL's first foray into Usenet, each message posted was actually sent seven times. This didn't automatically endear the service to most.
Then the users tried their darndest to endear themselves to the Usenet population. It wasn't that the AOLers themselves were so wretchedly stupid, it was the sheer number of them discovering Usenet (witness alt.best.of.internet, located near the top of the alphabetical .newsrc the AOL reader used, suddenly beseiged by AOLers asking basic questions). Back in the University days, Usenet always had a problem around September with incoming freshmen, new to their school and the Internet, running amok for a while. With AOL, though, the floodgates were open year-round, and with little-to-none basic training on how Usenet works, the general consensus was that AOL was just throwing its users to the dogs and not giving one whit what they said or did. Heathens running amok, that sorta thing. Kinda brought morale down low-like.
Now basically the feeling is that WebTV is doing the same thing with its customers. The users of a system whose main selling point is "You don't need to know anything about computers to use the Internet", well, won't feel like they will need to know squat about computers, and therefore feel perfectly able to use the Internet when it's generally considered a Good Idea to actually know a little bit about the services you are using. Therefore, the sudden influx of clueless users brings the signal-to-noise ratio waaaay out of whack, folks are tired of answering the same damn questions, flames rise, and there ain't a bag of Snacky Cakes in sight to cool the raging tempers. Which sucks.
And don't even get me started on the viability of WebTV as a decent piece of technology. Dammit. Now go back to your room and start havin babies.
Here's a little perspective, WebTV of course is not a substitute for the latest WinTel miracles... but it does allow Even Experienced Internet Users with Usenet Experience Abounding (as I glean from this message) to surf the web, write email, etc., easily since you can get a wireless keyboard for it, and you don't have to fire up your computer. Using WebTV as an isp is another matter (you have no choice, and it's not an ideal choice). It can now be attached to a HP inkjet printer.
That's all well and good, but does anyone know when the next NEW Southpark ep will be aired? Comedy Central can rerun things until you never want to see them again.
