What the hell is everybody's problem?

Why is it that some people can't live happily unless they have something to bitch about? I watched South Park Christmas with a bunch (around 16 total) of my friends, most of whom had never seen the show before.

It spurred more discussion that just about anything else we've ever done together.

There were liberals in the room who hated it, saying it was offensive because it was racist, anti-semetic etc. etc. etc. There were conservatives in the room who hated it, saying it was offensive because some of the humor was disgusting and because of it's occasional portrayal of Christ as a cable access talk show host.

On the other hand, there were liberals AND conservatives who loved the show for one simple reason : It's funny. We were also the majority. <g>

On a side note, I find it amusing that the people flaming the complainers accuse THEM of being closedminded as if flame is really all that open. Word to the wise, don't stereotype people. Being Christian and Republican has nothing to do with hating anything. This Chirstian Republican happens to think South Park is the greatest show since Beavis and Butthead ended active production.

Oh yeah, while I'm here, where can a guy find DECENT quality RealVideo files of South Park episodes? I have one good copy of the Christmas show that runs at 96.1 Kbps. All the other episodes I've got are really shitty and grainny, running at a sad-ass 20-30 Kbps. I know the 96.1 Kbps are bigger but I don't care, it's worth it to me.

Bonus points are awarded for someone who can produce hi-res, commercial free clips in one contiguous file as versus 4 or 5 parts like the ones I have now. Whoever made my copy of the Christmas episode pulled this off so I know it's possible. Maybe someday I'll get off my ass and get a video card with a TV feed and try my hand at it myself. =)

I'm not sure why people find this offensive. Maybe becuase they live their lives so tightly by standards and not open-minded enough to laugh at themselves. I remember in 1990 here in Utah there were a group of people that hated the Simpsons for various reasons. The funniest thing about one of the protests is how many of the men that were there looked and played the part of Homer Simpson almost to the "t". I was there in support of the Simpsons and couldn't help but laugh.

I think South Park is wonderful and it's about time a show like this is popular. It makes people laugh. Can't wait to see the new episodes this next year.
