M. Garrison = William Garrison

Well, i was taking a break watching the Didn't You Hear movie, when I stumbled on the historical origins of Mrs. (formerly Mr.) Garrison, from reading the Anti-Slavery Reader. You see, Mrs. Garrison is based on William Garrison, famous abolitionist. Reading him, I must say, he comes across as an asshole, so naturally I thought about Mr/Mrs Garrison. Turns out one of the Southpark secrets is broken, or was I sposed to already know this? Well, gee, it wasn't that obvious to me, i must be a fool.

Hence the 'Mr Slave' character...

And according to Amazon.com, Mr. Garrison is based on William Lloyd Garrison.

Speaking of Garrison... how did 'Mr Hat' disappear from the series? Was he killed off or scripted out in some other way, or did he simply never appear again? I'm aware that he became somewhat redundant after Garrison's 'coming out'/sex change, but I just cannot recall how or when he disappeared.

Mr Hat was in 612 - A Ladder to Heaven, and Mr Slave was introduced in 614 - The Death Camp of Tolerance. I don't recall any actual exit for Mr Hat.

Actually, Je�us, that would be one that was almost universally hated when it hit the small screen. I, myself, gave it the benefit of the doubt and watched it again the following day. When you say 'hated', was that by fans of the show, or just the general TV audience?

Towelie is likewise stupid, but I love him none the less. I'm still curious about what specifically was so disliked about the Oprah episode, I don't see how it is particularly different from other SP episodes?

I have not been what you'd call a hard core SP fan over the years, but always liked the show. It has only been in recent months that I have bothered to download every episode, and have been watching them one by one.

So far I would have to say 'Scott Tenorman Must Die' is my clear favourite... As for my least favourite, not sure, but one that does stand out is the 911 conspiracy conspiracy episode... it really wore thin about 2/3rds of the way through.

On the other side of the coin, we had someone remark "I just watched South Park 1005, "A Million Little Fibers," and it was so hilarious."

Personally, I found it to be a particularly poor episode upon the first viewing, but it's actually pretty good now that I've seen it 4 or 5 times.

I don't really know. The first half of Season 10 seemed to meet with the same reaction too but, on reflection, the episodes weren't quite so horrid at all. Perhaps they weren't actually as good which is why it took me a while to like them, or the style was a bit different, or somethingorother...

I'm not a hard core fan at all. With 160 episodes so far, I've probably only watched South Park about 1200 times.

Great ep, but I'd be hard pressed to come up with an actual favourite. I'll have a stab at it in another post soon after I've refreshed my memory.

The ridiculous Hardly Boys saved the day though, and also Mr Mackie giving his description of how the "fudge dragon" was dropped in the urinal...

What I've found is that some episodes have fairly poor main plots but hilarious side plots, and some are the other way around. In general, the shows are very good even if some don't quite measure up when you watch them the first time around. The first half of Season 10 and only a handful of other episodes fit into that category though as far as I'm concerned.

I think I found out what happened to mr Hat. In "The death camp of tolerance" mr Garrison used mr slave to try and get him fired and must have just stopped using mr hat while mr slave was the "teachers ass" (mr Hat was in the first scene where he became the kids teacher again).

Why he didn't start using mr Hatt again after he became a "women" I don't know. Maybe that helped him cope with his sexuality the way mr Hatt helped him. If you saw the episode with dr Katz you'd understand.

I've had Pay TV (as it is called in Australia) a few times over the years, but I never end up watching it... just repeats the same shit over and over and over...

I don't watch any TV channels whatsoever any more, all that happens is I get really pissed off, really fast... so what's the point? I'm not even sure the TV antenna is still connected.

I either buy DVDs or download what I want - then watch it when I want, without ads and all the other shit.

There's always a good plane crash on National Geographic, Green Acres on Fox Classics, Red Dwarf on UK TV, and South Park amongst the shit on Comedy Channel of course. At those too frequent times when the TV guide draws a complete blank, though, Animal Planet's usually interesting. Having said that, I generally turn the TV off once the situation becomes critical.

I do but I generally don't. I just bought a music DVD from the US on eBay though. Thankfully dedicated-region players were outlawed in Australia in 2001 or thereabouts (thank you Prof Allan Fels, who committed this kind act just before he retired from the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission). As far as I know, most if not all players have hidden menus to select regions anyway, no matter where you happen to live.
