Did anyone (besides me) notice there was no Zoop Soda *OR* Chocolate Chicken Pot Pie at the all-u-can eat buffet? And yet, they still get $6.99 per person??? Except from POVs of course...that'd be 2 years income for them..

Cmon, Kyle is just a crazy, mixed up lonely kid during the holiday season. He's not responsible for his actions. In fact, I think that Kyle is a victim and should treated as one.

Kashrut (Kosher, to those not speaking Hebrew) is a combination of things. Yes, it does matter how the animal is slaughtered, but that is only a small part of it. It also matters the types of dishes that it is killed, cooked, and served on. They must also be Kashrut for meat (though it will become appearant in a moment that this doesn't matter). Similarly, one obeying Kashrut would not eat a dairy and a meat product together, nor would someone eat a dairy meal on a meat plate, nor meat on a plate set aside for dairy meals. Finally, there is a list of foods that are considered Kashrut. Pig, and therefore nothing of the pig, is not a Kosher animal. No ham, bacon, etc. for someone keeping Kosher.

Of course, someone keeping strict Kashrut probably wouldn't ever go out to eat unless a Rabbi had verified that the kitchen had been "Koshered" and that all meats were Kosher, etc., etc.

Someone else mentioned that Kyle's family is Reform. I would venture to say that this is not the case. While Kyle might be reform, his parents seem to be headed toward the Conservative-Orthodox border. Kyle father always wears a Kippah, which is something that I, as a Conservative Jew, do not do.

No, observant Jews cannot eat pork in any form, nor any shellfish, plus a bunch of other things. The things they can eat, e.g., beef, chicken, etc., must be slaughtered according to the Kosher dietary laws (e.g., the animal must be conscious when it's slaughtered, it must be bled properly, etc.). It is also prohibited to mix meat with dairy (this means NO cheeseburgers). Lots of rules.

Responding to the previous post: Kyle's father looks pretty religious to me (curls, and such).
