City on the Edge of Forever

I just noticed that a lot of the SP web sites are reporting that the episode originally titled "Flashback" (the one where the bus crashes and Miss Crabtree finds love) has been retitled "City on the Edge of Forever."

Two questions:

1: Why was the episode renamed? And by whom? I assume Matt & Trey renamed it for some reason.

B: Is there anyone else in this newsgroup besides me who's old enough to get this joke?

Giving an episode this name is the absolute funniest thing Matt & Trey have ever done.

I don't know why they chose to rename it, but City on the Edge of Forever was the title of one of the most famous Star Trek episodes. Penned by sci-fi great Harlan Ellison, many trekkies believe it to be the greatest Star Trek ever. P.S. It stars Joan Collins as Kirk's love interest. PPS- The Star Trek title could have something to do with the kid wearing the red crewman's shirt in that episode. A long running gag about Star Trek is that anyone wearing the red shirt gets killed immediately.

That episode won the Hugo award for best sci-fi that year. I think M&T used this particular name due to the going-back-in-time aspect of the episode. In the Star Trek episode, they landed on a planet which was deserted except for a portal - you could step through the portal and go back to any point in Earth history - just as the kids keep remembering back to South Park history.

That was a hilarious bit.
