Cartman as Person of the Century

Hey, I just thought of something. I know that this isn't totally on the topic of south park, but I'm sure that many of the people on the group are aware that Cartman is #2 in the Person of the Century Poll at http://cgi.pathfinder.com/time/time100/poc/century.html, right behind Jesus Christ. It seems to me that Jesus Christ should not be considered for #1, because of two reasons:

  • Jesus Christ did not actually exist in this century and

2) Because Jesus Christ is not a real person beyond reasonable doubt (and don't get me wrong, I'm not against anyone's religion here. Heck, I'm a Christian myself), then the title of Person of the Century should go to someone who actually exists (Cartman does exist as Matt Stone, so he counts).

Therefore, I say give Cartman what he deserves.

What crack are you smoking? Christ is believed to be born somewhere between 5-10BC. So unless he died by his tenth birthday, he was indeed alive this century. AD does not mean "After Death".

What crack are YOU smoking? THIS CENTURY is 1900 - 1999. Last time I checked, good old Christ got smoked around 200 years ago, came back for a while to sign autographs, and finally rose again and is watching us on his cable TV from the right hand of god, or whoever the nearest convenient deity is. The STORY of Jesus existed in this century... if he ever did walk the earth, it was most definitely not in the last 100 years... if he was alive today, he'd have a talk show and would be guest hosting Saturday Night Live.

Time to pay attend in school, Doctor. A century is 100 years, and while a lot of people have claimed to be Jesus, my money says that he certainly wasn't still walking around in 1902.

Rabbit---- Actually if you are going to get picky then you should say he wasnt walking around in 1898/99 and or around that date. That is a century. You are 4 years off. Doctor--- Actually he did exist(He just wasnt alive) Anything can exist. Jesus will continue to exist till everyone forgets about him.

Thats if everyone likes to be accurate. Danilo Silva

No ... if he was walking around in 1898, then that would be the last (19th) century. This poll is to decide the person of this (20th) century. The person of the century will be someone whose good deeds occured after 1900 (or 1899, but I'm not getting into that argument -- I'm celebrating the millennium at the end of next year!).

De-lurking briefly...

Eric Cartman is a character in South Park. Jesus Christ is also a character in South Park (OK, technically I should say "amongst other things" there, but, well, you know...).

I think that makes it difficult to come up with an ruling that disqualifies El Saviorrrrrrr but keeps Fatass in contention... heck, #2 above the likes of Adolf Hitler, JFK and Ginger Spice is well worth settling for anyway!

You've got a point there, but remember that while Eric Cartman is the brainchild of a person who existed in this century, Jesus Christ is a character in South Park whom people thought of several centuries ago. In my opinion, the person had to have been "created" this century.

And when you say that it's cool that Cartman is higher than people like Hitler, Stalin, Kennedy, Bill Gates etc., there are also an unusual amount of joke votes in there. I mean, Ric Flair at #4. That's just not right,

Okay, gotta throw my two cents in here. Jesus did exist. Whether he was the son of god or not, that all depends what you believe. But there is proof that Mary of Nazareth had a son named Jesus. Remember the chrstmas story? Mary and Joseph went to Bethlehem because the emperor ordered a census, right? Jesus was counted in that census. There are also court records from ancient Rome that have been discovered that mention his trial under Pontius Pilot. I agree, though, he did not exist this century so he shouldn't count. Neither should Cartman though.

actually, just reason #1 is good enough. Jesus existed about 2000 ys ago, definately not in this century. Maybe Jesus "exists" in the hearts and souls of many people now, those who worship him and God, but Cartman "exists" on TV as a modern character invented and "existing" in the 20th century. So Jesus is disqualified (sorry J.C. no hard feelings) and Cartman wins. I'm probably going to Hell now. See you all there. :)

Ok, just as Jesus is disqualified, so is Cartman because he doesnt really exist. He's two dimensional and exists in only one form-that of being on TV (or on the net-if you want to be picky). But once you turn it off, he's no longer there. I say that Matt and Trey should get the credit, for even if you turn off the TV or the computer they will still be there, walking, talking, eating, farting, fucking, etc. -Toni

I just checked and the top three are as follows:

                       # Person % Tally

                       3 Eric Cartman 13.81 215379
