SP web page shut downs already?

I just read an article at http://www.wired.com/news/news/culture/story/7735.html It's about the efforts on behalf of Comedy Central to shutdown a web site with full versions of all the South Park episodes on real video. Fox has taken action in the past against web sites with sound clips of the Simpsons and King of the Hill. Will Comedy Central take the same actions against fans and supporters of South Park? If it wasn't for the internet I would have never even heard of or seen the Spirit of Christmas. Does CC have any rights to SoXmas, id hate to think new fans of the show will miss out because of CC's legal actions.

I thought most companies turned a blind eye to fan pages, since it was free advertisement, depsite copyright violations (lyrics, sound clips, etc.)?

Comedy Central is only interested in shutting down the site that contained FULL episodes broadcast via RealVideo. I can definately understand it from their perspective, after all if you can watch the episodes in full on the web without commercials you might not watch them as much on Comedy Central, hence less advertising revenue. Still it is a shame that the site went down as it was the only way I could show South Park to my friend in Australia.

Perhaps Comedy Central might be interested in archiving the older episodes themselves in RealVideo, with Web specific commercials built in...?

I don't think they would do that, especially since there is SoX at www.comedycentral.com It would be extremely stupid to shut down your own site because you've copyrighted the material there

WRONG. I was distributing copies of soxmas on vhs from my website http://pw1.netcom.com/~drewwid/spvhs.html and comedy central shut me down because apparently they own the copyright to the program. I have also got conformation from another source that matt and trey no longer hold the copyright. So.... be careful out there people, big brother is definitely watching :)
