Cartman's voice...

Cartman's voice just kills me! I love the other boy's voices as well, it's just that I can laugh at most anything Eric says just because of how funny his voice sounds! I'm wondering who does his voice...I tend to think that they have a woman doing Stan and Kyle's voice, and one of the creators (male) is doing Cartman's. I'd love to see the people do the voices! If my memory serves me correctly, this would be the "Death" episode. I don't think there was any time for the line to get squeezed in while Great Grandpa came back from Limbo with a message for Grandpa.

Slow the audio down about 30% in speed (pitch); then you'll have the basic vocal track down pretty close (this has been discussed earlier). Cartman's voice also has a raspy inflecion applied while speaking - why it sounds as harsh as it does in real-time.

Actually, they manipulate the voice via computer. The exact process is described in the South Park FAQ, but I think they raise it an octave or something.

It's true, though. The voices are the funniest part of the show!

Any of you here ever get a South Park .wav and then use a program to slow it down? It's interesting to say the least.

YUP! I know...I just figured it out tonight. I was watching the Halloween episode on tape before I got on Usenet and thought to myself that the voices do sound sped up...I heard Stan's love interest talk, and altho she sounds mighty feminine, I could believe Stan/Kyle's voices are sped up males. I couldn't imagine what Cartman's voice sounds like slowed down!!! LOL!!! If there's anyway I can hear any of that, please let me know!

We have established the following, though.

I'm still shaky on the following points:

• Is Cartman's voice accelerated?
• Is Kenny's voice accelerated?

I've heard evidence both ways for Cartman. People claim that Stan and Kyle's voices definitely sound like they're sped up, while Cartman's voice is timed perfectly. By my own observation, this seems to be true. I also know that most grown men can't impersonate Cartman. As far as I know, I've gotten closer than anyone else to his voice, but I have to hold my nose and it really tears up my throat. According to one person, I've gotten it dead-on once, so maybe it is possible.

And there's a third thing I'm wondering about the "Kencryption" used to hide Kenny's words.

Does Kenny's voice actor use any other methods to obscure Kenny's voice other than talking into his elbow? For example, whenever I try to decipher Kenny with the WAV player, speeding it up and slowing it down and stuff, it seems like Kenny either uses broken English, emphasizes unusual words, or throws in extra words or syllables in order to throw us off that much more.

And does Kenny's "real" line exist in a script somewhere, or only in the voice actor's mind?

I consider my Cartman impression to be pretty good and I'm 20 so my voice cracked a long time ago; however it does get painful to do it after awhile. My guess is that Trey does it at normal speed.

A great question. My guess is that it does but it's purposely not supposed to be understood by we the viewers.

I think the key is getting a good snotty, whiny voice. Most people just make a loud raspy voice... and since they quickly realize how far off they are, these impressions generally last about four words. One really has to tighten things up to get things right.

Here's another idea. Helium may be involved. If not, it may be useful to impressionists.

Or understood by we the viewers, but not they the censors, sponsors, and FCC stormtroopers.

Can't do Cartman's voice (I do try, "I don't wanna watch an educational videooooooo") but his mom's voice I am genius at, according to anyone I've ever tried it on. I'm great at that syrupy kind of kiss-ass sound. Never fails to crack me up to be Cartman's mom.

After listening to Cartman .wav's slowed down, it seems like he is talking normal with the voice being sped up.

Look for a program called "Goldwave" it's good for changing the speed on .wav files.

Windows Sound Recorder will do it. Just choose 'Decrease speed'

All 4 of the children's voices are done by Trey Parker and Matt Stone. They also do all the other male character's voices on the show except Chef.

I can do Cartman's voice and everyone I talk to says it sounds exactly like him. And because I have nno life I can also do the voices of Mr. Garrison, Kyle, Officer Barrbrady, Pip, Ned, and Grandpa.

There's a way to do Ned's voice, I can get the cancer kazoo-ish effect pretty easily.

Also, this may sound kind of stupid, but I can do Kenny pretty good too. Yeah, yeah, "Anyone can do Kenny, just mumble". But I can get the pitch of his voice and the muffled effect pretty well.
