South Park is overrated.

Don't get me wrong. I watch this show. It is pretty funny at some parts. I think it might be suffering from overkill, just a little bit. This isn't the best show ever. Anyone who laughs when Cartmen curses is a pretty easy person to please.

I watched it at first because I couldn't believe what they were saying and getting by with -- now I think it's a funny show. In fact, what I like best are the clever situations and the refreshing political incorrectness of it all (in fact, I tend to forget the curse words that shock casual viewers!). It's the relatively subtle stuff that gets me -- like the aliens preferring to talk to the cows as Earth's superior life form instead of the kids, a blue-woad-faced turkey addressing its troops, Eric enjoying that Hitler video, Kenny being beaten semi-senseless just to grab a can of green beans (how demeaning can you get toward a POV?), the doctor diagnosing pinkeye instead of rampant zombieism, etc. Okay, I said RELATIVELY subtle....

The Thanksgiving special -- how can anyone watch Cartman wandering the desert in the background of that Sally Struthers commercial and not appreciate that show?

Don't get me wrong, I love SP, but I'm afraid to say that in the future, the show may get a bit overkilled. When you look at sucessful cartoons in the near past, (i.e The Simpsons and Beavis and Butt-Head), you would have noticed that each of those shows never got nearly as much attention when they first came out. I remember watching Beavis and Butt-Head when they first came out, and I was pretty much alone when I said they were cool. Now, practically everyone is jumping on the SP bandwagon. If Trey and Matt keep up the excellent work and come up with fresh and new ideas, every episode, then their isn't much to worry about. All I'm saying is, things get old real fast when everyone in the country talks about them.

What sets South Park apart from the rest is how often it pushes that proverbial "envelope". Each episode has us saying, "oh, shit! I can't believe he said that!" SP provides a view many haven't seen very often - a cartoon with rauchy twist on current issues. The raunchiness makes the show. We all love to hear people running smak, playing the dozens, talkin shit, etc. Watching animated kids do it is even funnier...

Overkill? No. Fast and furious acceptance? Yes. They have 20 new episodes beginning in February. Wait until then...

And what's so wrong with being easily pleased?

My damn cable company doesn't carry Com Central....I have to catch the shows a week later on videotapes....Damn it...

I watched SP for the first time (christmas episode) and just loved it. Such mindless entertainment, such stupidity, not to mention outragaous language for 8-year olds made me an instant fan Sparrowhawk
