OT: Dell SUCKS, dell sucks... did i mention they suck?

On Monday at about 5pm our time (and the same time in Texas, where I was calling), I ordered a dell digital jukebox... The digital jukebox is a small mp3 player with a tiny 15gb (or 20gb) hard drive. It is roughly the size of a walkman.

Monday, I was told that the item would ship Wednesday. Tuesday evening, I typed in the order number and saw that my status was about 50% through dell's shipping process. Right on schedule so far.

Tuesday left, and Wednesday came. Wednesday went, and at 5pm, I called dell and asked why the order status had not changed in about 2 days (perhaps they are out of stock, it would make sense, it is Christmas), but I was told that it should ship Thursday morning, so I wanted.

Thursday 12pm, I looked at the order status, and it was at the same place it was three days ago. I called dell and they said it would ship this afternoon, and since it was small, would probably take 2 days to Canada, and 2 days to Calgary.

Thursday at 5:20, still not shipped, and has not moved AT ALL. I called and was told I was misinformed, and that it may not ship until Monday, Friday at the earliest, and that it takes 4 days to Canada from Texas, and 2 days to me, and that I could get be seeing product "as early as" (the rep's quote) the week of the 15th.

The week of the 15th? What the f*ck had happened that with no apparent shortage of stock, it is taking over 2 weeks to get something from Texas USA to Calgary Alberta Canada, a trip that a person could DRIVE in a matter of 36 hours easily.

The way I see it, 2 days for processing, the item should have been processed Tuesday (since I ordered late Monday), Wednesday, and been shipped THURSDAY.

Friday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday (4 week days for shipping, assuming customs is a pain in the ass), and I should be getting it Wednesday or Thursday, not Monday or Tuesday the next week.

does anyone have any suggestions for how I can expedite this? Do you have any experience with dell, or know something I can do speed this help? thanks alot.

Friday... I called dell, and there was no supervisor or manager around I guess, that is what I was told. I was also told it would be out Monday, I guess... Now its Monday, it will take about 7 days to actually put in a box, code it, and ship it (what a f*cking joke huh?) and 3 days to ship it to me, and 1 day for it to come to my door when I am at work and miss me, and 1 day for me to come to the depot and get it (and the last 2 aren't dell's fault, I realize).

I will never buy from them ever again. I have 1 year to put this thing through its paces and have them fix it for free, and then dell can f-off for all I care... really.

Bad business practices loose customers, no matter how much advertising you do.

Yup. Dell is BY FAR the worst company I've ever had to deal with. On top of that, their computers are pure crap.

I will say this about Dell though..they are quiet as hell. It seems that they are undercloked or throttled or something though..I can run circles around a 3 ghz P4 Dell with my AMD 1800.

It does? Well, 9.0 does to be sure... As bad as Doze '98. 8.0 is like XP, though. Pretty much the shit.

R&D is what makes nice, pretty, user friendly computers for dummies like you. You have to love the irony of the people who benefit most from R&D not supporting companies that spend on R&D.

Hopefully the sadly helpless tech support people in India seriously fuck up your company's data and force the closure of your business and cause you all to lose your jobs. That is what DELL customers deserve.

If you saw some of the users I have to support you'd understand that the simple machines work the best. That's why I think Dell is the best choice for my situation.

The fact of the matter is that all components of all PCs are being made over-seas in near or not so near sweatshop conditions. To say that one maker is better or worse than another because of workshop conditions is a blatantly ignorant statement.

I could build a PC from scratch from parts collected at Frys and be no worse off than Dell.

That's not an option for a lot of people. Neither is doing their own hardware troubleshooting & repairs. OK, fine, all the individual components have 1-year warranties, but there's no warranty at all on the assembly.

I'll vote with Chet Hayes here. If your computer is being used as a serious tool, & not as a l33t hacker kidz toy, it's well worth paying extra to let someone else assemble & tune the system, & they can be responsible for seeing that it doesn't fail.

The point is that you used a component from your old system which was already paid for. If you had bought a computer from an OEM vendor, you'd have acquired an additional OS licence for that machine & would be legally able to sell your old one (or go on using the old computer). To make a fair comparison, you have to add the cost of the OS to the machine you build yourself.

I also use Windows 98SE on the rare occasions when I use Windows at all. Incidentally, I didn't build my own machine; I bought one from a local importer, & paid less than the price of the separate parts. (About $320 U.S. at the time, & that included a 17" monitor.) How did the seller get the price so low? He didn't include an OS.

If Dell made you purchase Windows separately, they could knock a big percentage off their prices. But their licensing deal with Microsoft does not allow them to do that.

Thanks for the suggestion. There is more to it than I have typed out.

I ordered this item, and went to work. Apparently, after giving a friend the link through msn messenger, he looked an hour later and it was 10% off ($30 Canadian).

I did call dell, and I told them I wanted to cancel, and they said that dell cannot cancel over 12 hours since the order was made, and that they do not offer price protection. The only thing that they could do was sell me another of the same item NOW, and then take the first one I ordered back, but this would involve me sending the first one back after I got it in the mail with the proper forms filled out, etc, within 30 days of receiving it.

in short, they do not make it easy to do returns, get any sort of satisfaction, or make you happy.

I told the sales rep today, after he said there was no manager on, that I will not be doing business with dell again, and that I would still like to talk to a manager ("there are none on" was his reply, again), and said that I have been screwed around now for five days, and that I will next time take my business elsewhere.

In short, they just don't care, and couldn't care less. They know I stand to loose money if I return the item (I would need to pay shipping, etc), so they treat you like this. Its garbage, and that is why I am posting this, I suppose.

What if you just don't take delivery? How did you pay? can you stop payment? I guess DELL doesn't care about the consumer so your better off without them
