Disappointment about NAMBLA episode

Why couldn't the town priest (Maxi) be somehow written in as one of the child molesters? It would have made for an excellent piece of biting satire against the clergy, an reflected real life quite well. Looks like they missed an opportunity.

Actually, child molesters are pervs who have their way with kids against their will. The kids at NAMBLA actually LIKE that stuff, so, technically, they aren't actually being molested. Just read some of those testimonials on their website. Everyone at NAMBLA is really, REALLY [bleep]ed-up. Someone should do something about those people.

Isn't this the kind of public reaction that Matt and Trey thrive on? Since when are they afraid to offend religious conservative groups? Has someone threatened their and their families' lives since their brave old days?

It's about time somebody stuck it to these religious groups and showed them that their sacred institutions too are not immune to the most scathing of satire. Besides, I think it could have provided an excellent possible message for a "You know, I learned something today..." segment--that those who claim the ultimate holiness aren't as holy as they make themselves out to be.

Because it would have been TOO OBVIOUS a target. Besides, the focus was on a group that claimed that men had the right to have sex w/ boys. OPENLY. I doubt that there would be a priest amonsgth the membership.

Really? The topic of pedophilic priests have never been covered on any other major TV show, or movie, that I know of. They could've been the first to take this brave, bold step.

Actually, they could've made him out to be the group's fiercest critic--only to get caught red-handed himself later on--just like in real life.

I think they already squashed this when, in the Damien episode, where Jesus walks in to the bar and is accusing everyone of betting on the boxing match against him. AND EVEN THE PRIEST HAD BET AGAINST HIM!!!!

Been there burned that dogma to the ground.

I'm pretty sure there was a Canadian mini-series that dealt with the topic -- based on a true story -- sometime during the '90s.

Ah, I just found it on the IMDB: The Boys of St. Vincent (1993).

Applause to the CBC then, for taking such a brave stance in the face of Catholic disapproval. (They are the ones who produced and aired it, right?)

However, I should've specified in the context of a satirical fiction, preferably comedy. I believe the honour for that is still up for grabs.

Especially a Catholic priest. He would be stripped of all priestly power, but not kicked out of the priesthood. He'd have to withdraw of his own accord. A priest active in NAMbLA would have to choose.
