Hey Cov, no offense dude, but..damn. I understand where you're coming from, though, and in some cases you're right..the Pledge is purely a choice and doesn't make for some elite force. But it's also causing a lot of harm to the group. Now, let me point out what I've observed along the 'Pledge Timeline'..and remember, this is partially based on opinion and what I care to notice:
-Before the pledge, there were trolls..actually, a good amount of them. But we've always had trolls, sometimes one, sometimes what felt like one hundred. We fought against them, sometimes laughed at them, and there was at least *some* South Park discussion. -You created the Pledge. It was something new, exciting, and with a 'why the hell not?' factor. People flocked to sign. -Some of your first words to the newbies of the group were 'check out the Pledge'. I know you meant only to help by this, but in my mind's eye..well, it sounded pretty scary. Still does. -The Pledge seemed to work, or not. Trolls were at a minimum for a while. -Along comes Yakanoh. This guy has been a troll for years (so he claims), and won't stop any time soon. He begins doing the work of 5 trolls, with 15 messages in a week. -People start to respond, and our current enforcer starts repeatedly telling them *not* to respond. This, in turn, creates more messages. (I recently suggested that Toni e-mail the offenders privately. It seems she's taken that advice.) -Yakanoh persists, attracting more trolls in his wake, with the new threat of the 'troll army'. We are the Roadrunner, he is the Coyote. The Coyote will never stop pursuing the Roadrunner, but there are no anvils and cliffs to slow Yakanoh down. And the Roadrunner can't run forever. (Yes, I know this has to be the stupidest, most pointless metaphor I've ever come up with. It's the only one I can think of at the moment) - The group starts to fight. We're getting divided into 'for' and 'against' sides, however small 'against' side might be at the moment. There are almost no on-topic messages, no decent discussion, and trolls that irk us every second. The Pledge is yet to change any of this for the better. Is this what Yakanoh has always wanted? Perhaps.
With all that in mind, I hope we can find some way to pull the group together. The pledge caused help at first, but now there's only hurt, and the threat of endless fighting. I was leaning towards 'against', but I think I'll stay neutral for now..let's just not let this get any further then it's gone. And so, in the words of Squeek Scollari, 'Dudes! Stop this madness!'

And if new people have an idea that trolling may happen more if they get responses then THAT is where the Pledge comes into it's own. Just think how many replies there WOULD have been to them if the Pledge did NOT exist!!!!!!!

Yes, it has. There is a ng called alt.troll. Trolls gather there and plan where they will strike next. Someone said "Look, there's a ng with a pledge, let's troll them back to the stone age!" or something similar. Look at Yakanoh. "AHAAHAHAHA FEED ME!!!" He's laughing at us.
Look at Dave. No matter how much you hate him, he hasn't responded to trolls. Is the pledge such a big thing? A pledge cannot change what's in our hearts, it's basically semantics.

hey.... ..excuse me, not wanting to interrupt a catfight, but, um, why not make a moderated SP group? Cov, if you have FAR TOO MUCH TIME ON YOUR HANDS, then use it. Screw the pledge, it isn't working, so make an alt.tv.southpark.moderated group! Let this place fall into anarchy and chaos, as it most certainly is about to do, or is already doing. Yakanoh has proved his point, so why don't we move to a place where he and the other trollers can't reach. Me? I'm just a normal 13-year-old kid with lots of homework, a great love for technology, and a love for a show called South Park. Screw you all if you want to disagree with me on that.
Actually, a moderated group was created a few months ago by the wonderful Mark Tangard, who was the Covenant of the group back then. He too, was sick and tired of all the bullshit that has contaminated this NG and wanted to do something drastic about it.
The moderated group seemed cool for a while-hell but there were a few problems with it. One is that I think Mark had established a few too many rules that extended beyond troll posts. It wasn't his fault, really- I kinda aided him in creating the rules!.....I think that he was just a bit too idealistic and wanted a group completely free of trolls, spam, and OT posts. The second thing is that not too many people like the idea of getting posts in their private email boxes. The third thing is that since it's moderated, someone will need to be the moderator and have the wonderful task of weeding through the crap to dole out the ok posts to distribute to the group's members. Fourth is that, since it's moderated, the posts take a certain amount of time before it reaches your mailboxes.
A few people, including me, joined Mark's moderated group. At first it seemed like a success, but not too many people were actually writing anything! After a short period of time Mark himself wanted to terminate the group but when someone volunteered, passed on the role of moderator to someone else. It's been several months since I've seen a post from that group, and for the life of me I can't even remember the name!
No an ACTUAL NEWS GROUP. It's been done, I've seen it before. You can go on Yahoo to find a tutorial. I would do it, but I, unlike Cov, don't have any time on my hands except about 5 minutes to write letters to the NG. Now, here are a few pointers I would recommend for the group.

Actually, we've been drowing in repeats in the US as well. There hasn't been a new episode in about a month or two, and from what I've heard, they'll start showing new eps on April 7. Seems like it's so far away, isn't it?
Only 1 more month until the last four new eps of the season, according to CC. After that, at least another month of repeats. Season 3 will start sometime after that.

Not according to the South Park mailing list from Comedy Central. They said four more new eps to conclude the season, in April. Sorry, they didn't give the titles.
I would like to point out that the lack of on topic messages is probably due to the fact that there aren't any new eppisodes. It happens to every ng when your between new epps.
