Seems like all that fizzing controvery didn't do much for the film, as it didn't really live up to financial expectations. It's already the second week and it has only made a little over 20 million, but it costed about 40 million to make.
I blame it on the TV spots it got--made it look too cookie-cutter lame.
Hopefully DVD sales will perhaps get Paramount to break even, but it doesn't look too good so far.

It had nothing to do with the ads, but everything to do with a huge mistake they made in how it was done. They managed to equally annoy both sides of the political spectrum enough to make neither side really want to go see it.
In trying to be equal opportunity offenders, they got the right to skip the film b/c they ridiculed the precious war on terror. They got the left to skip the film b/c they attacked liberal hollywood actors.
Worse, they did this during an election year when tempers are running high and people are extra sensitive about political topics.
I know most people I ask if they saw it say, "Oh I won't go see that 'neocon' or 'liberal' film because it (fill in political agenda here)"
If it was a non-election year, people may have been willing to laugh at themselves more freely, but not this year when emotions are running so high.

Or to an early showing. Of course if you go Fri or Sat night when the theater is packed, someone will annoy you. I usually go to movies on weekday nights or earlier in the afternoon. There's rarely 20 other people in the whole theater..makes for a much better time.

Team America was more clever than it was funny. There are some funny parts, but for the most part, it was kind of boring. I'm a HUGE South Park fan and love that type of humor, but it was absent for the most part in Team America. It's still a cool movie, because it's so different but it isn't great.

Orgasmo had some interesting ideas, but frankly, making fun of the porn industry isn't particulary hard or interesting and while Cannibal has somewhat poor production values, it had some good songs.
