Dagger of the Mind

Yes, I am a geek, I fess up. The 'Star Trek' episode which the 'Ebert' episode borrows heavily from is 'Dagger of the Mind'. The Enterprise delivers supplies to a mental rehab colony and the mad scientist has a mind-altering machine which brainwashes the inhabitants to make them perfect citizens. If I remember correctly, I think he blasts Kirk and Spock has to do a mind meld on him, but don't take that as gospel. In the end the scientist gets locked in the lab and is accidentally lobotimized by his own invention.

I've never seen "Dagger of the Mind" (I'm more of a TNG fan) but I could tell that Kyle's little comment was totally Shatneresque, from the way he talked- you know, in that halting sort of way. -Toni
