"Blame Canada" nominated for an Oscar

No joke. The Academy Award nominations were announced this morning, and "South Park: BLU" got a nomination!

"Blame Canada" was nominated for best original song. It won't win of course (the song from Tarzan probably will). But what I can't wait to see it what the musical number will look like on the actual awards show. Full choreography and dancing girls wearing orange hooded jackets or wool hats? The mind boggles.

What I'm curious to know is what are they gonna do aboot Mary Kay's part in the song? I mean she is the MAIN part of the song.

I imagine that they could probably show the clip from the movie on a screen or something and then just have some kind of choreography to go with it.

Most likely.

But her being gone shouldn't be the death knell of the show. There are probably hundreds of actresses who could approximate the voices Bergman used to provide. Hell, half of my grandmother's mah-jongg group could fill in in a pinch and nobody would know the difference.

I just heard a rumor that the Academy is not going to showcase the songs this year at the Oscars.

Anyone have any information about this?

Probably just to avoid giving any publicity to this song or the movie that said a great big "FUCK YOU!" to the whole film industry and Valenti.

If it's true, then it's enough proof that the Academy doesn't want Phil Collins to perform at an Oscars show.

If they didn't let Phil sing, then I find it highly unlikely they'll let Trey do what he wants. The academy is sure to step in and mess things up.

Very interesting follow-up The Los Angeles Times, which normally puts all of the nominations on the front 2 pages each year, buried this category on page 14 with all of the other "secondary" awards. First time that I can remember for that treatment! Could it be that "Blame Canada" was to blame for this? Even the LA Times a bit embarrassed???

Actually, they'll probably have a totally unrelated band perform it live, with choreography, like they did a few years ago for "That Thing You Do."
