Mecca Streisand Episode

With the exception of the appearance by Robert Smith, Cartman kicking Pip in the nuts, and the Chef thinking of Tom's Rhinoplasty when asked about Barbara Streisand, This episode really bit... very little was really funny about it. I didn't like MST3K for the exact reason that they played the old mothra shit that I couldn't sit through if my existence depended on it. No chef song, Kenny's death totally sucked, and the tasteless jokes that I love so much in South Park just weren't there. *sniff sniff* I hope the last of the "new" episodes lives up to the standard that the first 10 set.

I think most people get irony. I just didn't think it was funny. At all. The room I was in was stone cold silent, and that was with ten guys watching. And then a chorus of, "that was stupid", with some variation.

Well, this time he avoids a lot of falling junk and then goes to the other side of the river in a new and exciting way. Man, I remember playing tetherball. If only I'd known...

Yeah, I hope the next episode is alot better than Mecha Streisand. I thought that this episode was pretty boring, but I liked the "Rochambeau" and the song Cartman sang on the field trip. Kenny's death seemed pretty "out of the blue" to me....I thought for sure that Mecha Streisand would kill him!

This episode was more of a "private joke" episode; unless you knew the stars and was a big fan of japanese monster movies, then the show sucked, becasue you won't get all the refrences.

Personally I loved it...bit boring in some parts...but lets see

Barb = Godzilla Robert Smith = Mothra Sidney = Jet Jaguar (Godzilla vs Megalon) Leonard Maltin = Gamera (is turtle meat)

Either matt and trey really like goszilla or they watch too much MST3K :) (all the above monsters have been in a movie that MST3K did)

but kenny's suicide would have been good if stan and kyle were speechless.

Actually, Barb was based on Mechagodzilla, the Big G's robot clone. Sidney Poitier was Gamera and Maltin was based on Ultraman, the long-running TV space superhero (and the inspiration for Jet Jaguar). Glad to see Matt and Trey know their daikaiju.

What is this everybody complaining that Mecha Streisand was just average or weaker than Damien. I thought it kicked ass from start to finish. I've noticed that there are 2 kinds of sp episodes, 1 in which there are a few good jokes that are funny as hell and the other where there are nonstop not as funny but still amusing jokes. This episode finally was able to compare to the Spirit of Xmas in that it was a mix of the 2 with nonstop funny as hell jokes. Who cares if chef didn't sing, his songs don't make the show anyway. At least Kenny did die and the fact that it was so simple is the whole joke behind it. In my opinion this was the best regular episode of SP yet. Only SoX can top it in my mind. Just thought I'd share my 2 cents.

Heheheee... naw, I just never liked Godzilla and the genre of mega monsters..... Maybe it's a girlie thing. All the guys I know really liked the show last night. I'll have to sit through it again and look for the good stuff.

But it's pretty obvious from the episode that this was made by fans of the stuff for fans of the stuff. No one else could have remembered all the references.

I didn't like the episode overall, but I'm sure I missed a lot as I only watched it once ;)

I missed the Bar-bur-ra singing, but I liked when Chef told the guy to shut up... Kenny's death sucked, I kinda like it when it somehow fits into the plot, e.g. getting knocked into a microwave by a monster, getting hit by a flying sword because there are arabs in the room, etc. That death was totally incongruous to the plot. Can anyone tell me WHY Kenny decided to play tetherball as the town was being destroyed by giant monsters?

I'm sure when I add all the little things up it will be more amusing than it is now... I wonder what Streisand has to say about the show?

I happened to be out on the town last night and happened upon a bar that was *showing* the episode. Quite a lot of people were paying attention too. Maybe it was because I was with alot of people and I was a little drunk, but I thought the episode to be pretty good. It was loaded with complex/inside jokes, which I like alot if I understand them. I thought it was leaps and bounds better than the pitiful "Damien", but the general consensus at this NG seems to be that it sucked pretty hard, so maybe it was the beer and company that made it good. Also, I quite enjoyed Kenny's death. I thought it a much wittier way to go than just to get stepped on by a giant monster. As soon as the EXPECTED starts to happen, this show will be less fun to watch.
