I finally saw the Thanksgiving episode for the first time last night. (not seeing it on RealVideo first, technically, means I hadn't seen the show yet. :-) My area just got Comedy Central last month) I thought it was one of the funnier shows this season, especially with Cartman swatting Starvin' Marvin away saying, "No, Starvin' Marvin! That's my pot pie!"
There's a lot of complaints that I keep hearing from critics. Some are listed below with my explanations as to why I disagree with them:
1) My aunt said she didn't like it because of the fact that every week they kill a "kid".
My take on it (and the way I explained it to her): It's not a kid getting killed every week. It's an orange piece of construction paper getting killed every week. You see it as a real kid, of course you're not going to think it's funny.
- "It's crass and disgusting."
My take on it: Sure, it is. But that's only a small portion of the show, when you think about it. There's also some really clever lines in the show if you pay close enough attention to the show. Oftentimes crassness can draw people to watch a show, thinking they're going to get a lot of it, and when they watch the show they get something completely different.
- "The show is prejudice against minority groups."
My take on it: I can see where some people might come to that conclusion with some fo the things in the show (most recent example that I thought was hilarious was Mr. Garrison's line of, "Can we get rid of all the Mexicans?"). But when you think about it, when has political correctness ever been funny? The best jokes are usually the most politically incorrect ones. And also, I feel that they don't make fun of the minority group with jokes like that -- they make fun of the people who think that way about minority groups.
Hope that clears that up for some people.
