Sense of Humor

i am really curious to see just how diverse this group is i would like to know what kind of comedy people grew up on and what every kind of settled into now

for instance growing up it my parents are VERY conservative so i grew up on some truly old school stuff such as: 3 stooges keystone cops (to be honest i still get a kick out those putzes) little rascals really poorly translated kung fu movies

then when i found out there is a world outside of your own house i got into: in living color bundys sam kinison carrot top gallagher weird al john candy (god bless his soul) really poorly translated kung fu movies

and now its pretty much: adam sandler chris farley jerky boys (like that wasnt obvious) simpsons south park (no crap) really poorly translated kung fu movies

and one more thing how many people can still watch something from their childhood and still get something out of it for instance i could watch UHF until i puke on myself (i am nearing that point now) and i would never get old of it same goes for monty python even though i havent seen anything but the holy grail

I had Nickelodeon as a kid, and back then it was pretty cool! They played a lot of British and Canadian programming (which is probably why people are always telling me a have a kind of f*cked up accent). My FAVORITE show as a little kid had to be "You Can't do that on Television". For a kid's show, it was pretty over the top! I'm pretty sure the teacher on that show was named "Mr. Shitler". :)

I used to watch Laugh-In, and Car 54 and stuff when they started showing that on Nick at Nite. But my favorite thing ever was when MTV had a weekly lineup that included The Young Ones, Monty Python's Flying Circus, and The Comic Strip. The Young Ones were solely responsible for getting me hooked on British comedy. I think I was about 13 the first time I saw it.

Yep, all of the above...

Right now I think most of my favorite shows (at least the ones that are still on) are cartoons. I love South Park (obviously), and also The Critic, The simpsons, KOTH, Pinky and the Brain, Duckman, etc.

I still like Flying Circus (TRITE, I know, but you've still gotta love it.) Mad TV's really good too, but I'm never home on Sat. night, so I keep forgetting about it.

People, it's really sad that about the only quality programs for the 18-24 demo are CARTOONS!

At least they still make good movies for us. I used to love John Hughes films from the 80's. I like almost anything that falls into the "cult classics" category. I think "True Stories" is one of my favorites (you have to be a Talking Heads fan to like this one.) Anything with Bruce Campbell in it is good, too!

Yepper-- when I watch Rocky and Bullwinkle these days, for example, I get more out of it now than when I was a kid. So many jokes on that show are only understood by adults. Lots of shows are like that for me.

You're kidding, right? You've never seen Flying Circus?! Go rent some eps right now-- seriously-- it's 100 times funnier than The Holy Grail.

Oh man I remember that show..."The introduction to the oppisites" and all that
junk. You know Alanis Morisette was on that show...but she was really pudgy
then, you were probably older than I was when you watched it...DOES ANYONE
REMEMBER PINWHEEL?  I recall that show on Nickolodeon and no one else

I barely remember you can't do that on television. How about Roundhouse and Welcome Freshmen? Thats way off the subject of SP but, I think I used to like those shows.

Retro-nickelodeon kicks ass. I remember all those shows mentioned here. Another mention, although not in the same vein as the others, The Third Eye, Mr. Wizards World, and the Tomorrow People.

As long as we're on the subject of "Nick" shows, does anyone remember "Third Eye"?! (A really cool kids' sci-fi/fantasy series) None of my friends remember it (of course, they're mostly younger than I am, and some of them didn't have cable). C'mon, you guys-- think back:

Ah, the Critic. That was a truly great show. But, of course, Fox canceled it, just as they have done with almost all their other great shows. Brisco County Jr., the Tick, Profit, Sliders, all canceled for some odd reason. Johnny Bago and the Aaron Spelling - Vampire: The Masquerade shows were good, too, but not the same caliber. Profit was especially good, I still can't believe they canceled that one. Or Brisco.

I'm always on the computer when Mad TV is on, so I never really watch it, but that is a good show. MPFC does, of course, rule the land, but that's obvious.

Oddly enough, I don't fit that demo but still watch mainly cartoons. Besides South Park, I watch the Simpsons twice every night, except Sunday, King of the Hill, Space Ghost Coast to Coast when I remember it, Dargon Ball Z, Rocko's Modern Life, Ren & Stimpy, Rugrats, the Tick, the Critic, and a lot of what's on Cartoon Network. I watch a good bit of anime, too. Saturday Anime is a regular in my schedule, unless it's a repeat, which they all seem to be.

I love cult movies. Army of Darkness? Watch it at least once a week. Evil Dead? Same deal. John Waters? I have never seen a bad movie that he has made. Oddly enough, at my local video store, Army of Darkness isn't in the cult section. It's in horror, of all places, along with both Evil Deads.

Ah, Bruce Campbell. I'd go into details here, but I have to be going soon.

Ahhh, "The Young Ones" One of my all-time favorite shows. I grew up on Monty Python, so I think most all British humor is great. As for Americans, I still laugh every time I hear "Cat Handcuffs" from Steve Martin. (yes, before he was a movie star, he was a stand up comedian. All you young 'uns go find "Wild and Crazy Guy" for non-stop laughs) Getting back to "Young Ones", I was flipping thru channels and happened upon an episode of "Black Adder" that had Rik Mayall and Adrian Edmundson from "the Young Ones"...It was hilarious!! anyone know if they were just "guest appearing" or are they on BA all the time? I definitely need to start checking out Black Adder.

Monty Python and Fawlty Towers are the greatest (i don't think i agree with a remake of FT episodes though)

That's... a matter of taste.. most FC is genius... but the earlier stuff will blow you away. Instead of renting episodes... go out and BUY:
