I've been reading tons of posts and listening to people complain how unfunny the T&P episode was and all I can think is... You just don't get it!!
The T&P episode was not supposed to be funny. It was supposed to be entirely lame. Much like any small T&P segment in the South Park shows (Thanksgiving, for example) or "Itchy & Scratchy" on the Simpsons. It's lack of humor is what makes it funny.
Best way to explain this is to compare it to Andy Kauffman's comedy club act. Kauffman didn't believe in safe humor. In fact, a large part of his act was based on p*ssing off the audience. For example, once Kauffman went on stage and for 20 minutes read straight from Shakespeare's Hamlet. No joke voices or anything. Just reading into the mic. People in the audience got up and walked. But those people in the audience got one hell of a show watching all of the others walking out and complaining. The audience became the humor.
Just like now. My sister-in-law complained the whole half-hour. My wife kept commenting on how boring it was. Me...I laughed my ass off at their reactions. And I am still laughing my ass of at all of you.
It was probably the funniest episode to date for this reason. Here it is...almost a week later...and the comedy still is playing on.
Thanks for the laughs. I'm sure Matt and Trey are in hysterics about all of this.

P.S. Simple question...if you thought it was lame and boring and unfunny....why finish the episode? You could have just changed the channel.
P.P.S. To you cancer joke critics, why is the weekly death of a small child, an old man trying to talk his grandson into commiting a mercy killing, and the shooting of a poor wittle bunny funny but not this? Where's the true difference?
I agree with you that this most likely may have been Matt and Trey's objective for the episode, although I still thought the episode itself was funny. (I thought a lot of Andy Kauffman's antics to annoy people were pretty funny by themselves, though, as well, so perhaps that explains a lot. I suppose I just have a demented sense of humor. However, as was suggested elsewhere in the group, just because I liked the T&P epsiode doesn't mean I think my dog doing her business is funny.) People just don't like it when the joke's on them. However, those of us that have enough of a sense of humor to be able laugh at ourselves are enjoying both the episode and the aftermath. (Although the aftermath is starting to wear pretty thin by this point, and we could probably use a subject change around here.)
So, how about those Rough Riders? :)

There was discussion in the ng re Andy. You must have missed it. If indeed it was an homage of sorts to AK the fact remains it was unfunny and those who claim otherwise, to me, are only deluding themselves. Hell, Saturday Night Live could claim that every show they put on is an Andy Kaufman type bit! Who cares? SNL still sucks on ice.

I think Itchy and Scratchy are funny. But only in the two minute segments. I don't think they can carry on for a half hour thou.
