Kubrick was mentioned at last year's Oscars. Usually, when they do the "In Memory Of" sequence at the Oscars, they have people who died between the last Oscar ceremony and the latest one. Kubrick kicked the bucket before last year's Oscar ceremony. Thus, he was mentioned last year.

Just a thought: I think the annual tribute is for people who actually won an Oscar. Also, considering the circumstances of her death, I doubt that even her family would want a special tribute so soon.

On the contrary, her husband wrote to the Academy, specifically asking that she be included. And he asked her fans to write to ask for the same thing. It was very important to him that she be included.

The Oscars this year were decidedly *not* SP-oriented.

1. I was not aware that her family actually did want a tribute already. I wouldn't want it, but hey -- it's not my family.

2. Yes, I was referring to the film clips. I was not aware that non-winners were shown, let alone non-nominees. (I don't remember Brandon Lee being either nominated or winning!) Anyway, most people would not recognize Mary Kay if they saw a picture of her.

3. The probably (wrongfully) considered her "just" a singer instead of a very talented voice actor. Does the award go to the songwriter or the performer, technically speaking?

You dont have to be nominated for an oscar, or even win one..you have to be a member of the academy...mary kay wasn't, therefore, she doesn't qualify.
