BASKETBall & Hot Tubs

While I may not be ready to have a 'Penthouse Forum' interlude with Trey Parker, I certainly enjoyed watching 'BASKETBall'.

Here is the take from the Bluegrass State (also known as Basketball & Ashley Judd Obsessed Hell):

The theater was filled with early twenty-something college kids and knocking 30 I felt like the old fart in the room. By the 'Cartman' imitations floating down from the back rows the audience was obviously stacked. Although our copy of the movie broke fifteen minutes into it, we quickly go the pace back once it was up and running again (the last time I had a movie break was 'Titanic' - the first and only time I saw it).

The movie fulfilled all of my expectations which were to have a great silly time and laugh - a lot. The audience reaction to the gags and 'SP' droppings were good. I was kind of disappointed that many of them were not quite as fast on the uptake as they should have been to some of the sight gags and cultural references. It is always good to be with an audience who can keep pace, but this is KY.

I am hopeful this will do a decent box office. I enjoyed it much more than 'Something About Mary' which had a couple amusing scenes but for the most part drew empathetic chuckles from me.

I concur!! I haven't laughed that hard ever (except for some pot experiences ;-) ) and never that long!!

I really enjoyed the Road Kill Caught on Tape and "Remember that time you got crabs..." and "No, Daddy. Don't touch me there".

I was a little leery of it, having gone to too many movies where the trailers look great and then I discover that the 30-second trailer also contained the movie's entire collection of good jokes. But our local paper, the Toronto Star, gave it four stars, so I think I'm going to part with $8.50 and go to see it.

Plus it's a Zucker movie. I saw Airplane! two days after it came out 18 years ago, and I've seen it a dozen times since then, and it still cracks me up. I can't resist ...

There are some good jokes that were used in the trailer, but basically every joke was good, and a lot of the good ones were not used on TV since they were <snicker> not PC. And one of the funniest parts of the movie is...well, in case you haven't seen the movie trailer (god damnit, I will *kill* the assholes who had to spoil it for us...) I won't tell you. BASEketball is worth your money, it was one of the best evenings I've had recently.

In response to movie spoilers:

I swear, sometimes I think these critics and chat show hosts have their heads firmly implanted in their asses. 'Entertainment Weekly' is especially bad for revealing all during their movie reviews. If I am really hyped on a movie, I let that mag sit in my mail stack until after I have seen it.

Any plot twists, surprises or uncredited guest appearances get blown all to hell. The most recent case of this I saw on 'Larry King Live' while surfing. Clooney was on talking about 'Out of Sight' which I had just seen (fortunately) so liking Clooney I stopped. Not a minute into my viewing King asks him: 'So, tell me how it was working with uncredited guest stars Blah and Blah.' Now mind you the movie had JUST opened that day. I thought Clooney was going to come across the table at him. So much for surprises.

"Tell me, Kevin Spacey, about the dynamics playing a character as dynamic as 'Keyser Soze'." - Somebody pass me a bat.

Can you believe that? I don't know whether I was more outraged or just plain stunned. The question was posed to Spacey about two weeks after 'Suspects' came out, long enough for a buzz about the 'surprise' to be generated. I saw this on 'Showbiz Today' on CNN (same channel as the Larry King stupidity). Some overly fluffed bleached blonde bimbo (and I don't use that word lightly) asked him with the most innocent look on her face. I swear she did not realize what she had just done. Spacey just froze with this weird smile on his face. How he kept from slapping her just proves what a gentleman he is. Anyway, the real shocker is that CNN went ahead and aired the clip.

Whatever happened to 'think before you speak'?
