When does Martin Sheen's contract run out for this show? The closing of tonight's episode made it look like he was going into a coma or shock or something.

And the bastards didn't show any previews for next week either....

That's because next week is Christmas week, and the week after that is the week between Christmas and New Year's,and the week after that is New Year's week.

New episodes probably won't show up until at least mid February, early March.

While I can't imagine WW without Sheen, I'm going to have to get used to the idea at some point I guess.

The Prez is not dead. The powers that be have developed a knack for sensational endings this year. By all rights, Leo was dead in the woods after a massive heart attack. I half expect Barlet to walk off Airforce one 10 minutes into next week's episode.

And if he is... well, both Leo and Spock came back from the dead - Barlet can too.

PS - new thought: Remember when Goodman became President? Is there any way that could be interpreted as a term in office? Any way it could be interpreted that Barlet has had two, 1 year terms? Not likely - just a twisted thought.

Are you a dumbass? The ep this week had the asteroid play out and Barlett maybe dying at the end as the teaser. We won't know whether he died until the next ep, just like we were teased in the ep before about this asteroid thing that came to nichts. Face it you are a dumbass.

The asteroid was the transitory "C" storyline in last night's episode, serving mostly as comic relief. The two main A and B storylines are Bartlet's deteriorating health from MS during a summit in China, and Josh's search for a strong candidate to run as the Democratic nominee for President to succeed Bartlet. Of course, the asteroid missed Earth (and it wouldn't have been an "Extinction Level Event" anyway).

I started losing interest in TWW a couple of years ago when Rob Lowe left (and I'm really surprised how much his departure hurt the show) but I think it has improved considerably this season. I could have done without Leo's heart attack, but I've so far liked C.J. as the new Chief of Staff and Kristin Chenowith as the new Press Secretary.

Jimmy Smits is interesting as the likely but reluctant Democratic candidate, and Alan Alda is actually playing a Republican candidate who is not pompous, a doofus, or a born-again zealot. Either would be a good choice to launch West Wing Phase II next season with an all-new cast.

I think we'll have to see Smits in charge with Josh as CoS, Will as Speach Writer (possibly with his onscreen sister - Danica McKeller assisting him) and I'm sure he'll get donna back doing something and probably Charlie.

I hope they get rid of everyone else, Leo, Toby, CJ etc....I wouldn't mind Rob Lowe coming back though.....I'd deffinatly fight to keep Josh, Will, Donna and Charlie in the cast though and possibly have leo making guest appearences....having Rob Lowe become the VP would be a bit unrealistic but would be very good - young VP and Pres at the same time and it means Lowe would only mave to make a few appearences a year and probably get paid a fair whack per episode....

Egads, no. I despise that whiny Will Bailey. Besides, he's firmly in Russell's camp and I think Josh just burned some bridges there last night. Charlie, maybe, but I've had trouble swallowing his "promotion" to CJ's staff. If Josh stays, its a safe bet Donna will too, but they've done this "will they or won't they" tease to death and they need to go somewhere with it soon. I like Toby, but they haven't seemed to have any idea what to do with him for over a year now, so maybe it's time he left.

Well, I think they blew that option with their petty "hopeless election" storyline for Sam's departure. If he'd won, he could have made occasional appearances as an ally in the House, but no, they wrote him out completely. The only worse fate would have been to have Sam get killed in an LA earthquake or something...

One development that I'm afraid of: C.J. becomes VP next season. Back in TWW's heyday, I figured the final episode of the series would take place 20 years in the future, with Sam being sworn in as President, Josh his CoS and married to Donna, Charlie in the House, maybe CJ in the Senate...

As usual, Barlett know everything, explaining to his 'advisors' that the worse case scenario would be if the thing hit in Siberia, thus causing what he termed an 'impact winter'. This is similar, of course, to 'nuclear winter', something that fanatical On The Beach anti-nuke kooks worry a lot about. Does anyone know what time of year it is supposed to be? I find a huge firestorm in Siberia unlikely if the time of the event is in the Winter, outside the normal fire season. What time of year was the The Tunguska Event in 1908? Looks like in the Summer yet no 'impact winter' from that one:

#begin quote What was the explosion?

Because the meteorite did not strike the ground or make a crater, early researchers thought the object might be a weak, icy fragment of a comet, which vaporized explosively in the air, and left no residue on the ground. However, modern planetary scientists have much better tools for understanding meteorite explosion in the atmosphere. As a meteorite slams into the atmosphere at speeds around 12 to 20 km/sec or more, it experiences a strong mechanical shock, like a diver bellyflopping into water. This can break apart stones of a certain size range, which explode instead of hitting the ground. Some of them drop brick-sized fragments on the ground, but others, such as the one that hit Siberia, may produce primarily a fireball and cloud of fine dust and tiny fragments. In 1993 researchers Chris Chyba, Paul Thomas, and Kevin Zahnle studied the Siberian explosion and concluded it was of this type -- a stone meteorite that exploded in the atmosphere. This conclusion was supported when Russian researchers found tiny stoney particles embedded in the trees at the collision site, matching the composition of common stone meteorites. The original asteroid fragment may have been roughly 50-60 meters (50-60 yards) in diameter. #end quote

How big was the thing Barlett was worried about? Bigger than 60 metres?

same here, i loved the show and then when rob left? ehh. rob was great. the last season wasn't so hot, but this season has been great, especially the episode where cj took over as chief of staff, that was the best episode of tww in years.

i don't know much about jimmy smits, i never watched nypd blue but i really enjoyed him when he was on tww, looks like he'll be on even more now, that should be good.

everyone in the cast is replacable, so long as they do it like they have been, slowly. although i don't know how the shows going to do without martin sheen, i can't see anyone filling those shoes. since next season will probably be entirely devoted to the election i guess they'll slowly give him less and less face time next season to get everyone used to the idea of him being gone. im sure they'll spend all of next season on the election. i can't see ms cutting sheens term short, i can see it being a season cliffhanger but he needs to stcik around for one more season.

for me the show is Josh and Will. I could do with out the rest. I really like Carol and Donna and think they need more air time and promotions with whoever carries on the show next year (and I really think it has to be a democrat so Smits or Russell. Personally I'm a huge fan of Gary Owen's in Office Space and One Hour Photo and thought he'd be a great addition to TWW but they havn't used him as much as I'd like. Personally I think have to get Smits to stay on, Teri Polo is coming on as his Wife which is great as she's another Sports Night veteran to join the show and it shows Aaron Sorkin must still have some pull with the show. I know when Smits signed on for this season both him and polo got a multi-year option at the end of this season implying if the show survives with a new president then he will be it and they'll be back next year.

And remember the show started about 6 months into Bartlet's presidency so theres no reason they can't have Smits win the election before the season is over...they've missed out a year sometime in the last 2 season so I dont see why they can't jump to election night and have smits win then close the show on Bartlet dying....then start season 7 with the state funeral for Bartlet which would incorporate flashbacks to unseen campaign stuff and Smits hiring people to run his White House then have episode 2 be a last few days of Bartlet's life episode focusing on Sheen and Channing with Charlie, CJ, Leo and Toby all making their last appearences then episode 3 have them jumped ahead again to the inauguration with Smits being sworn in as Pres.

Ideally if I could choose everyone my cast would be:

Exsisting Characters: Smits - President Teri Polo - First Lady Josh - Chief of Staff Will - Policy Advisor and Senior Speach Writer Elsie Snuffin - Deputy Senior Speech Writer Amy Garner (Gardner?) - First Lady's Senior Advisor

New Characters: Terry Kinney - Vice President Megan Ward - Press Secretery (with Carol assisting her)

Greg Grunberg - dunno but I always find him very funny in everything I've seen him in Lee Tergesen - again dont know what role but I'm a big fan

I was going to suggest Reiko Aylesworth for a role but she's already been int he show before IIRC.

I'd also like to see another Sports Night star, Sabrina Lloyd in some role..as well as Tom Cavanah from Ed who was in an episode of Sports Night but I never remember him being in TWW before...he's a fast talking funny guy the way Sorkin writes and would work well in a role.

I dont think any promotions given to current characters are to unreasonable and the new characters could easily be realistically established. I'd also keep Donna in the show in some position but I dont know what, perhaps assistant to Josh or maybe in Debbie's job.
