South Park's movie references and influences

Anyone else notice all the movie references and influences in South Park?

Chef is loosely based on the black chef in "The Shining" played by Scatman Crouthers. Like the character in the movie, he's the only one who communicates with the kid(s), and check out the garish decorations in his house--very much like those in the Florida digs of the character in the film.

The mad geneticist and his deformed little pal are based on Marlon Brando and his little nonspeaking buddy in the recent remake of "The Island of Dr. Moreau." They even dress alike, like the film characters.

The whole series is influenced by the viewpoint of the little-kid narrator in "A Christmas Story," as the creators of the show have mentioned in interviews.

The Halloween show was probably influenced by the hoards of menacing corpses in "Night of the Living Dead."

I'm sure others can come up with additional references and influences. The way these are worked into the show is one of the big attractions of the show for me.

Plus, of course, the whole show is kick-ASS.

One of the (slightly) more obscure references I've noticed:

"That'll do pig" by Eric Cartman at the end of 'A Pig and an Elephant...' referencing Farmer Hogget from 'Babe'

That's pretty weak. But, it may be... Gus Porterhouse "You think it's broken? Let me make sure..."

Actually, I'm relatively sure that "Chef" is "Shaft" from those movies in the 1970's. The voice is Isaac Hayes, who played Shaft and incidentally is a D.J. on a NY radio station.

Isaac Hayes did not play Shaft, he just sung the theme song, "Shaft". The character of Shaft was played by Richard Roundtree.
