I barely chuckled. What a disappointment. Actually, in the end, they didn't really bash the Roman Catholics at all, but merely the greedy opportunists amongst the Christians. But it just wasn't funny.

That's just your opinion, dude . . . I thought that this 2-parter was pretty good (which is just my opinion) . . . oh well . . .

Long live Eric Theodore Cartman! BEEEEEFCAAAKE!!!!

I laffed through part 1 and laffed through part 2. Maybe the anonymous first poster is growing up, I mean, getting too old, I mean, becoming an old fart!

Could be, although there is a certain core of SP fans (or Ren and Stimpy fans, or L.A. Law fans) that think that anything on their favorite show is just rad.

Well, they already bashed the Catholics in the first part - what good would it have done to bash them again in a whole different (although linked) episode? It's not South Park's style to repeat bashings.

I thought it was good of them to shift the emphasis from the Catholics to the evangelicals, and to put the whole concept of Heaven and Hell, and what they're made out to be into perspective. I mean, just imagine what a dull and boring place Heaven would be if the kinds of people said to be destined there actually did (with the Mormons being a good model to illustrate this point).

It was also nice to see them put some of the sleazy and evil qualities back into Cartman. Doesn't anyone else think he was getting too soft as of late?

They were not bashing the Catholic Church, of which I consider myself a part. They were criticizing how many catholics, and seemingly mostly just catholics, seem to pick and choose what they believe in their religion. They also highlights the fact that Catholic Doctrine is what Catholics should believe, and not neccesarily its practitioners, illustrated by the shot of Fr. Maxey stiking it to that woman in the confession box, making a mockery of everything that he had previously told the boys.

In a world without walls, who needs windows?

If you look at it again, they never really bashed the church. They actually only based the failings of the people in the church. They portrayed a fdailed priest, but the nun was pretty straightfoward, honest and dedicated, even if she did have trouble explaining to the kids what communion was all about. Who else in the church did they go after in a meaningful way?

They made fun of the Pope's age. They didn't touch his religion, dogma or liturgy in any way.

Well, yeah, except for the implied broader criticism that someone who's too old and out of it to stay coherent (or even awake) is in charge of the whole Catholic church.

It was lightweight, but it was still "there" enough to add to my list of taboos SP has broken. ;)

It's not quite as good as having him stick his face into Powdered Toast Man's ass anyways.

But weren't both Jesus and the nun, wrong? Jesus basically told the group of kids that all they have to do is try to be good people during their time on Earth, yet he never mentioned to them that they HAD to be Mormons in order to get into heaven. Why didn't he mention that? Basically, all the children are headed to hell because they are not Mormons, so technically, they can do whatever they want.

Bill K.Ihpsdmalt.tv.southpark

Because as the episode suggested, Heaven is the *real* hell...unless you like the eternal company of devout Mormons (or whatever puritans are purportedly headed that way).

So... if I eat these stale little crackers, then I'll go to Heaven? ;)

Are you sure they weren't taking a poke at Catholicism?

"High Time" wrote in message news:WpEg5.12272$[email]...

actually

dedicated,

It was a poke, to be sure, but not just at Catholicism. Many (perhaps most?) Christian sects do the Cracker Thing. They didn't get way deep into the transsubstantiation myth (although IMO it certainly deserves getting into, and if I'm correctly informed, that would've put Catholics much closer to the point of their spear; I'm pretty sure only RC's are supposed to believe the wafers & wine actually become the body & blood).

I think the Greek Catholics believe that as well, I'm not quite sure on that one. But Roman Catholics are definitely believers of that. Other sects of Christians (i.e. Lutherans, Protestants, etc.) just believe the little wafer thing and the wine just symbolize Jesus' body and blood.

Yep, if they did go further with transubstantiation, that would've been shish-kabobbing the Catholics. :) Transubstantiation is basically the only major belief that separates Catholics from most other Christians. And they REALLY pride themselves in this belief--that's what makes them believe that they're the, as they put it, "the one true faith". Poppycock, IMHO.

This post was generated by years of being forced into Catholic school and Sunday school. And all that other stuff. *makes a face*

.fascination. *not sold in any stores* (alter-egos -- Kyle Broslofski or Jess -- not included) "You're flying much too high."

Orthodox Christians also believe that the wafers & wine actually become the body & blood of Jesus, but without defining the process as transubstantiation.

The one problem with the other churches believing that the little wafer thing and the wine just symbolize Jesus' body and blood is that it takes the teeth out of Paul's words concerning the wafer and wine: Take them unworthily, and you're guilty of murder.

This makes transubstantiation the litmus test for Catholicism, just as right interpretatin is the litmus test for Evangeicalism.

Not at all. They were taking a poke at the questions children ask. Any Catholic that has studied their faith knows that the crackers are not the actual body of Christ.

No, they don't. Crackers aren't used in the Eucharist. It's a wafer that is used, and the Catholics believve it because Jesus said so, no matter what interpretation people come up with.

I wonder, does everything taste better when it sits on a Eucharist? "Gooooooooooood cracker! I'm a good cracker too!" (Or should it be someone dressed as Jesus saying, "I'm a god cracker too!")

I bet it would be better with some ranch dressing to dip it in, everything taste better with that stuff on it. Jay WTBF

Hebrios: Two Eucharists with a creamy filling in between.

And God told Jesus, "Son, I want you to go down there and die for their sins." And Jesus replied, "That really bites, Dad."

Jesus looks out from the cross: "This sucks. 33 years and I knew it would come to this all along. I shoulda booked to Nod long ago."

On the third day the rock is rolled away and all the guards are dead. You fail to seal these tombs up right, they explode in the heat. And the stench is awful. Once a big gas cloud came up from a lake bed and asphyxiated a lot of people.

"Are you kidding, Paul?? Nobody's gonna buy all this shit!" "Sure they will! We'll make it even wierder! Like, 'You still have free will even though God knows wich of you will go to Hell in advance.'" "Paul, you're one sick mutherfuk." "And then, the fires of Hell burn eternally, inflicting constant pain, but you never really consume!" "That does it, Paul. I'm outa here. You a real sicko." "And then, I think, this guy knows in advance that in his 30s he'll be nailed right in! YES! That's what we'll put up above his figure! 'I'm Nailed Right In'! Or maybe just 'INRI' for short -- takes up less space. Oh, we'll make millions, and millions will be taken in! Then we burn anyone who disagrees with us! They'll even worship bones!"

Anyone remeber the "Jesus Cheetos" from the early 1990's? I think they were sppsd to be tiger paws, but had nail holes in the palms...

Not really. Catholics eat wafers, not crackers. Still, the episode does have a num, a priest, a papal secretary, and the pope, not to mention the confessional. But no mention of purgatory.

And if you put a creme filling in between two of those wafers, you get a cookie known as Hebrios.

"Son, I want you to go down to Earth and be crucified and die for the sins of mankind." "That really bites, Dad."
