Anyone who says, "I'm never gonna watch this show ever again! And I'm gonna take my ball and go home, so there!" are exactly the kind of people who aren't the kind of die hard fans that Stone and Parker truly appreciate. People with commercial success always wanna weed out the people who are going along with the trend 'cuz everyone else is (anyone else remember Nirvana's In Utero???).

I'm sorry but who cares? I'm not going to watch the show again because I had to sit through a half an hour of crap, and I felt like a fool afterwards. They don't want fans is that what you're saying? Listen, what happened was stupid, it wasn't funny. The way I see it, the only people that will continue to watch south park are the ones that go along with trends.
That 30 minutes was still better than the 3-1/2 hours of Titanic.

Oh, bullshit. How holier-than-thou. I've been watching the show from Day 1, before it was trendy. If anything, the "fans" that QUIT watching are the trendoids. Their lives are now so much less full because they don't know who an animated character's animated father is. Well, fuck 'em. It's no longer "cool" because of the April Fool's joke, so they move on to the Next Big Thing. No big loss, in my book.
I guess most of the TV shows we watch are crap, too. Because week after week, we watch sitcoms, cartoons and other shows to see what will happen. X Files does this all the time with 2 parters, to keep you going.
BTW, Comedy Central is a camedy channel, so it figures they would do something on April Fools Day. It wasn't the best episode, but it was ok and had some funny parts.
And in "Cliffhanger", they did warn us with the T&P commericial.
Oh well, have fun with other TV shows.

Well, I agree that some people are going way overboard in their reaction to a lame show. However, I find it equally amusing at the number of people who seem to argue that these guys were trying to DECREASE their audience intentionally by throwing up a major stinkbomb (pun intended). Never met too many artists who purported that the fewer people that appreciated their art, the better. At least, none that were any good.

This is the tired argument that something that has a wide audience then it must have little or no artistic value because too many people appreciate it. However, if it has a small audience then it must be high in artistic merit, cutting edge, or some other lame cliche derived by the people who consider themselves above the "common man's" taste. Risk is good and taking chances is what made South Park the great show that it is. However, risk is not an end to itself. It is still the content that must stand and deliver. The TP episode, in my opinion, fell over after "aboote" 2 minutes, leaving the high principle of "risk for risk's sake" smelling like a partially digested Kroft meal.
