What will become of the series now?

Will the female characters all suddenly sound different? If so, will there be a weird storyline to "explain" it? Like an episode in which a mysterious gas messes up the voices of all the women in town?

Maybe they'll just suddenly drop all the female characters who were played by Mary Kay.

Either way, the series will never be the same again.

Then again, maybe Mary Kay will come back from the dead with no explanation, just like Kenny has always done.

Possible, but far-fetched.

Also possible, but equally as far-fetched. The female "cast" is required for a lot of the jokes and really add a lot to the show. I think they'll probably mourn for a few weeks or maybe a few motnhs, then they'll have open casting for the female voices on the show.

Very true.

Now that's just silly... and a bit rude.

Doesn't someone else do Bebe's voice? I wouldn't be surprised if she found herself a lot busier. Or they could just get Maggie Roswell. It's not like she's busy.

I noticed there was another name in the credits...I believe it was someone with the first name Michelle...I'd never seen this name before either.

Voice effects, maybe? Haven't they been making use of it already anyways?

I'd like to see a new actress take over the roles with no explaination at all. But the other characters would notice it. Cartman: "Hey mom, you sound kinda funny. Do you have a cold or something?"

Mr. Garrison: "Oh, just ignore Principal Victoria. She always sounds like that when its that time of the month."

and so on.

Unfortunately, they can't do the same thing with what they did with Phil Hartman over at The Simpsons by retiring all of the characters he played (Lionel Hutz and Troy McLure). It'd be like Nancy Cartwright or Yeardly Smith left the show. On top of that, trying to turn the death of a castmate into a show in-joke is pretty insensitive.

I'm sure you're thinking of how they changed from Dick York to Dick Sergeant on Bewitched (or maybe it was the other way around...I'm not sure) and nobody noticed. But they didn't draw any attention to it, which is why they pulled it off. However, that's a little difficult to do so these days, considering that EVERYBODY knows about it by now. Information travells much faster these days.

They would have to be *blind* not to be able to tell the two Darrens apart. They don't even look the least bit similar. The audience just accepts the fact that the same actor is not available, and lets do with a different guy, pretending it's the same person, just like they've been doing with all the James Bonds.

If Bewitched and Bond fans can accept such a drastic change in the appearance of the characters, surely, SP fans can accept a slight change of voice. Besides, with all the audio technology that's available, replicating voices should not be a problem.

Cartoon voices are replaced all the time. I'm sure we won't notice too much of a difference. The thing is that they will have to get multiple voice talents and not just one person. Just like Mel Blanc, you can find a person who can do Bugs Bunny voice, but that person will probably have trouble doing Yosemite Sam.
