Beware of piratebay link on MrTwig.net

Mr Twig doesn't yet have his usual links for tonight's episode, but there is another link to a torrent at piratebay. The episode downloaded fine but the zipped file is password protected. To unlock it, you need to call a phone number that will allegedly give you the password and bill it to your phone. After much deliberation, I rang the number ($3.85 per minute in Australia, and how long could it possibly take to say a password?) and kept my eye on the clock. I hung up just before the first minute was up, and the recording was still in self-congratulations mode about how easy and secure it is. 4 bucks was enough to lose, and this fucking recording didn't seem to be going to dish out the password at any time in the foreseeable future.

Do not under any circumstances download the torrent file from http://torrents.thepiratebay.org/3857619/South. Park.S11E11.DSR.Xvid.NoTV.3857619.TPB.torrent (deliberately split so you don't inadvertently download it).

These fuckwits are pirates in the true sense of the word. Most people simply share what would be freely available on TV (free-to-air TV here before it goes to pay-TV), but these bastards are profiteering and do not deserve a cent. They took 385 of my cents, delivered nothing, and can go fuck themselves. I half suspected that they would stall before giving a password, but I wasn't going to risk getting to the end of the second minute with my balls still dry.

It wasn't a joke. I've sourced all of the previous 163 episodes via Mr Twig and never had a problem. On this occasion the link provided turned out to be a dud. The link wasn't the usual sort of link, but it was on the front page and seemed like a suitable alternative in the absence of the proper link. Considering that I have no problem throwing money around on beer and taxis, $4 was nothing at all if it meant that I could watch the episode that I'd already downloaded. I'd have also posted the password here and to Mr Twig if it worked.

I'm not sure what you consider to be the joke. Is it the fact that I didn't try to download the episode from a site that I'd never heard of? Is it the fact that I download the episodes via torrents and upload as much as I've downloaded in the spirit of sharing? Is it the fact that I didn't seek an alternate source for downloads when I already had a perfectly reliable and fast source? If it's the fact that I rang the Australian premium phone number in the first place, I have no defence.

I thought the latter might have been a joke (phoning up) but wasn't 100% sure - Usenet being a text based medium sometimes the intention (whether it be humour, sarcasm, etc) of the poster isn't always clear... and sometimes something can be interpreted in completely the wrong way... anyway, I wasn't having a go at you as such :)

I might check out Mr Twig - I haven't even heard of that one myself, believe it or not!

Anywho... if you ever get stuck finding an episode in future, there are usually plenty of sources like demonoid, piratebay or good 'ol Usenet of course.

Actually, I still need to get season 8 in divx format (someone made a DVD with all episodes and I downloaded that ages ago) so I might see if anyone is seeding it anywhere... maybe Mr Twig has it... cheers,
