Finally! We got to see the complete episode of Cartman Gets an Anal Probe. Among the restored scenes:

-Every single reference to "dildo" is restored. Cartman calling Stan (or Kyle) a dildo, and Kenny explains what it is. Cartman saying "Mom! Kitty's being a dildo" to which she responds, "Well I know a certain kitty-kitty that's sleeping with mommy tonight!"

-All the references to kick the baby are restrored. Kyle picks up Ike by the head and knocks Cartman down with it. Kyle kicks Ike across the road and knocks over several mail boxes. Kyle kicks Ike, and he goes sailing through the bus window.

-Pip being set on fire. In the original, it cut to the commercial just as Cartman farts fire on Pip. In the restored version, Pip dances around while he's on fire.

-Cartman screams out "dildo" when the aliens are taking him away.

I just gotta know, why were these taken out in the first place, and what made them decide to restore them in last night's broadcast? But one thing I did notice was that they played the second version of the opening theme. On older eps, the theme song only features Les Claypool's bassline, vocals, and the drums. Newer eps also feature Larry LaLonde's psychobilly guitar riff.

   I'm not sure...  My best guess is that Global (or whichever station was
responsible for the censoring) didn't want to run afoul of the CRTC.  The
dildo references really push the envelope.
   However, I have a tape of the censored version.  At the beginning, the
warning says the show is unsuitable for those younger than _14_ years,
instead of 18, as in all the other episodes.  Maybe someone was being
overly conservative and wanted to open the show up for younger kids...?
My guess is as good as yours.

I don't know, but I'm not complaining! It's not the first time the uncensored version has been shown. Global showed it in late March, I believe, while waiting for new episodes.

   The guitar riff has been there all along.  However, you can only hear
it in the older episodes if you have a stereo TV.  This is a little hard
to explain, but in the older episodes, the guitar riff was recorded with
its waveform inverted in one speaker from the other.  If you listen to
this with stereo headphones, the guitar will sound like it's coming from
near the back of your head.  It's a really cool effect -- if you have
stereo equipment.  If you're listening in mono, the opposite waveforms from
each speaker will be combined, causing what is called "destructive
interference." They will cancel each other, making the guitar inaudible.
That's why the guitar riff doesn't seem to be there.
   A slight, non-wave-inverted reverb effect was applied to the guitar.
If you listen closely, you'll hear the reverb from the guitar in there,
but it's very quiet.
   The newer episodes' theme music appears to have been re-recorded
without the inverted waveform effect.  However, the "chorus effect" that
occurs when the kids on the bus sing, "Happy people everywhere..." is also
gone.
   I liked it better _with_ the inverted waveform effect on the guitar.
On a mono TV or a stereo TV set to mono, it's much easier to hear what
Kenny sings.  >:^)

It must be the station that decides. Here in Regina, not a single dildo mentioned on our Global station. I also noticed the 18+ symbol was on through the whole show, not just the first minute after each commercial. Also Kyle's colourful monologue was one continuous beep...

Again, both time it was censored here. I wish "Global" would truly become global to all their stations.

I am familiar with the concept because some CDs have been recorded in that manner. Nine Inch Nails' Broken has a warning, "not for use with mono devices" because certain parts will disappear when played in mono (for instance, drum tracks from "Happiness in Slavery" are missing).

The episode was never changed. I got the original on tape straight from GlobAL and nothing like dildo, kick the baby, or the Pip stuff were cut.
