A couple years ago, during it's "let's slap a South Park story on the cover to sell a gazillion issues" era, there was a guitar magazine that had a pic of the 4 boys, complete with instruments. Anyone got a scan, or a mag, or something?

That was actually a pic of primus from an early 98 ish of guitar world an no i dont have the date.

No...but the article was aboot Primus. The pic was the 4 boys.
A search of Guitar World Online shows that the cover was for May 1998:
