Recipe Query: Salty Chocolate Balls

Hi all

Can any yanks out there tell me, how big is a stick of butter?

I'm thinking a pound. In Australia the usual size package is 500g, slightly more than a pound.

I remember from Sesame Street: "A loaf of bread, a container of milk and a stick of butter ... a loaf of bread, a container of milk and a stick of butter ... a loaf of bread, a container of milk and a stick of butter ..."

I think it's a quater pound, but could be wrong. Are you making actual "Salty Chocolate Balls"? If so, where'd you get the recipe?

I remember that bit! Gads, I've just dated myself! <shudders at the thought of his age>

Yeah, I'm a 6'3" dwarf. What of it?!? --------------------DO NOT SEND ANY JUNK E-MAIL---------------------- If you send me any junk e-mail, you are breaking the following laws: US Code Title 47, Sec.227(a)(2)(B); Sec.227(b)(1)(C). And I can pursue action under: Sec.227(b)(3)(C) - look 'em up.

Some say 1/2 cup, some say 1/4 lb, but luckily they're almost the same anyway. 1/2 a metric cup is exactly 125g of water and about the same of butter, and 125g = 4oz near enough.

PS Here's the recipe from Chef Aid:

Chefs Salty Chocolate Balls

Ingredients

2 tbsp cinnamon 2 or 3 egg whites half a stick of butter, mmmelted

Stick it all in a bowl, baby. Stir it with a wooden spoon. Mix in

1 cup flour

Youll be in heaven soon.

cup of unsweetened chocolate cup brandy a bag or two sugar just a pinch of vanilla

Grease up the cookie sheet, because I hate it when my balls stick. Then preheat the oven to 350F, and give that spoon a lick.

---

That's all there is, but I suppose you just make little balls out of the mixture and set them out on the cookie sheet (=biscuit tray in Oz) and bake them until they're cooked, trial and error. I should think about 20 minutes would do it but I'll have to see.

I know now that half a stick of butter = 2oz = 60g, but how much sugar is 'a bag or two'? Can't be the size bag we have in Australia, because we get sugar in 1kg (2lb) or 2kg (4lb) paper bags. That sounds like far too much!
