ok... Chef's Salty Choclate Balls...

Good episode tonight... Definitely better than the Giant Snake.

The running Chef's Balls gag was funny... despite the numerous times it was repeated.

Once again, Matt and Trey packed the movie with pop culture references... at least two Star Wars (the partially-constructed globe for Hollywood Planet and the Mr. Hankey Yoda-esque death scene), plus ANdy Warhol was in the crowd at one point, and... god... so man y references. I'll have to watch it again this weekend and try to pick more out.

And the Kenny death scene was great!

A great effort... here's hoping next week's episode is half as good.

Anyone notice that when Chef gave Mr. Hankey the chocolate balls and he revived that that whole thing was based on "Frosty the snowman"? I mean, when Frosty melted, the kids put the hat on him and he revived! (I used to watch it as a kid....so sue me!!)

I think I saw Leonard Maltin there again briefly in one of the crowd scenes.

And isn't Robert Redford the head of the Sundance film festival. They never mentioned his name but his bad complexion matched perfectly.

I also thought this was one of chef's best songs yet.. it's amazing how they can get away with some of this stuff based on the context.

Also realize that Trey Parker (et. al.) were seriously snubbed by SUNDANCE after submitting CANNABAL! THE MUSICAL, but they came knocking on HIS door for his movie, Orgazmo! This episode really portrays Matt and Trey's hate for the fickleness of Hollywood... but also protrays their shamelessness in "sellling out" because "Selling out is sweet because you make a lot of money, and you don't have to hang out with a bunch of poor losers like you guys... Screw you guys... I'm-a goin' home".

MY SENTIMENTS EXACTLY!!!!! One of my favorite Kenny deaths ever. :) Oh, and I have to also mentoin that I loved the PHantom Of The Opera reference in the sewer. That was pretty classy... well... for Matt and Trey it was classy :).

It was classy enough to go over the heads of perhaps *half* of the people in the bar I was watching it in. Those of us who laughed out loud at it got a series of strange looks from all sides. Weird. Sometimes SP is fun to watch in a large group; sometimes it's just strange....

As much as I tend not to enjoy overdone buzzphrases, I'm growing to love the way Cartman is gradually elevating this one to the level of a mantra. The real danger sign is: I found myself *using* it today.

I think maybe Mr. Hanky's death scene was also partly Tinkerbell's dying scene from Peter Pan. By the way, The Sorceror's Apprentice is by Paul Dukas, not Grieg. Apparently there was some legal trouble getting the actual music, although Itchy and Scratchy used it.

That's the way it is with any show with "catch phrases". When you first hear them, it just sounds like a funny line. It isn't until you hear it over and over that you think, "They say that a lot..."

It happened to me, too, but with "The Simpsons". :)

I almost wonder if, the first couple of times they use it, the writers don't *intend* for it to be a catch-phrase. Then, when they use it a couple more times, they think, "Hey! This could be a catch-phrase!"

But what do I know? I've never written a TV show before.

I think that *was* intended to be a "catch-phrase" right from the start, especially considering they planned to kill Kenny in every episode.

Of course. Like all good catch-phrases, it can be used in real-life situations. Any time one abandons a group of people, especially in a frustrated mood, this phrase not only applies, but probably came up naturally every now and then long before South Park.

Of course, I try to keep away from it now, no matter how tempting the situation is.

The great thing about "Don't have a cow, man" was that nobody was trying to pull off a Bart Simpson impression while saying it.
