Why is Trey Parker usually the only name on the credits

Looking through the credits for the movie, I see Trey Parker's name everywhere, and Matt Stone's nowhere. Is this how they've always divided up the labor, or has there been a change?

Actually, I personally believe that Trey is usually more involved with the work in the Parker/Stone films, except for BASEketball. After all, he is usually the one who directs the films.

Which starts to make me wonder what Matt Stone *actually* does on this show. Seems that I hear a LOT of voices being done my Trey, Trey works on the scripts, music, etc. Seems to me that even "Old Scratch" has more involvement in the show's production than Matt does.

I've seen lists and it seems that for each Trey character there is a Matt character...as in Trey does Ned's voice, Matt does Jimbo's, Trey does Satan's voice, Matt did Saddam's, etc etc. For each Trey voice, you hear one from the opposite done by Matt...I think its kinda neet =)

yeah, because when two guys are having a conversation, it's kind of hard to totally switch into another voice at a split second if one guy is doing both characters. My theory is that when they write the scripts, the guy characters that are conversing are always done by both trey and matt. But that's just my opinion

Sometimes they switch voices, like with Big Gay Al. Matt did the voice for Big Gal Al in Big Gay Al's Big Gay Boatride, but Trey did the voice in the movie. Same with Terrance and Phillip, Matt did Phillip's voice in 106 (Death), Trey did Terrance's voice. Then in 109 (Starvin Marvin) to present, it has been the other way around.

Did you derive this from hearing the voices alone, or is this information revealed somewhere else?

well, according to the credits, saddam is voiced by "himself" in the film.

I read somewhere that Trey writes all the scripts and stuff, and Matt is in charge of the marketing and public relations....

Well, I'm looking at my movie poster, it says:

A Scott Rudin & Trey Parker/Matt Stone Production Written by Trey Parker, Matt Stone & Pam Brady Produced by Trey Parker & Matt Stone

As for the tv series, in season 3 Matt Stone has directed two episodes, Spontaneous Combustion and Jakovasaurs.

Matt does quite a few voices, it's just that Trey Parker's voices are pretty easy to distinguish (at least for me). And because he was a music major (before film school) lots of songs get written by Trey. Matt usually does a lot of producer type duties.

So I think it's safe to say Matt earns his keep.
